I. CALL TO ORDER
Alan Foulds called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
II. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS
No minutes were approved.
III. OTHER BUSINESS
Sandra Trainor, Chairman of the recently held Walkathon reported
that there were 21 teams walking with eight strong teams. She
felt her financial goal would not be met and indicated that all
the monies were not "in" at this time. She felt it was a great
community effort with participation from Town Hall Employees,
Realtors, Selectmen, RTA, The Hot Spot, Burger King, Shaws, At-
lantic, MacDonalds, Dunkin Donuts. It gave the issue of the
350th Celebration great visibility and there were contributions
from former Reading people as well. Her recommendation for the
future was to make sure there was a strong inside person to mobi-
lize each group and get sponsors. She has good pictures and
hopes to get additional visibility for the Committee through use
of these. She further noted that Everett Blodgett had remained
on site for the entire 24 hours, chaperoning his 20 plus seniors
through their early a.m. walk! (1:00 - 3:00a.m.)._ The weather
was perfect for the first 12 hours with rain starting at 3:22
a.m.and continuing off and on until the finish at 1:00 p.m. Sun-
day.
Members of the Committee commended her for her outstanding ef-
forts in organizing this fundraiser.

Alan advised that proposed articles for the Fall Town Meeting
would be discussed at the next meeting, October 19th. Discussion
ensued on the cost of police, fire, DPW needed for Jubileve,
Fireworks and Parade. Members felt they should ask the Selectmen
to request sufficient funds to fund police, fire, medical and
sanitations provisions. Cathy Quimby to gather estimate of these
expenses.
Ed Palmer, Ken Latham and Susan;Theophanis will'coordinate the
Opening Ceremonies. Susan noted that Don Walker, who was the
student speaker at the 300th celebration, was available and plan-
ning on attending the Opening Ceremony.
Discussion ensued with regard to the Mt.Rushmore Flag from the
U.S. Dept of Defense. Flag weighs 300 lbs. They have contacted
Cathy Quimby as to our desirability and Cathy indicated that John
Shaw, Chairman of the Parade Committee was working on obtaining
it.
Budgets by projects were discussed. General review of possible
cost of Souvenier Booklet. Everett will contact the Boosters for
costs. Book should include schedule of events, historical
stories, history of Committee, fundraisers and boosters.
It was agreed that contributions for Wood End was closed and
major contributors should be steered toward other projects.
Reading Cooperative Bank and Reading Rotary were acknowledged for
their generous contributions to this endeavor in the amount of
$5,000 each.
Ellen Stanton reported on calls she has made to date and appoint-
ments set up for Paul Sweeney. She has sent out twenty plus let-
ters as follow-up to her calls and is hopeful of good results.
She noted that most of Reading's small businesses seemed to be
interested in advertising in the Souvenier Booklet.
Everett reported that 459 books have been sold on presale.
Everett advised that the book committee would like to order 2500
copies of the book instead of the previously voted 1500 copies.
He advised the cost of the book will be more, because of addi-
tional pages of photographs plus the addition of the emblem on
the cover. Everett reported that it was not a substantial in-
crease perhaps-trom 25K to 28K for the cost of 1500 books. Dis-
cussion on total to publish to be taken up at a later time.
IV. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 p.m. until TUESDAY, October
19, 1993.
