Berger Room, Reading Town Hall Committee Members in Attendance: Susan Theophanis, Nancy Smethurst, Shirley Buzderewicz, Alan Foulds, Everett Blodgett, Mary Williams, and Ellen Stanton. Paul Sweeney arrived later. Also Attending: Bob Marcotte, Anna Carroll (350th Inc.) I. CALL TO ORDER Alan Foulds called the meeting to order at 7:40 p.m. II. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS The minutes of the January 11, 1994 meeting were accepted as amended with two abstentions. III. COMMUNICATIONS Alan reported that Cathy Quimby had made a written note of some comments from the Town Manager pertaining to Jubileve ideas, and Cathy's note was passed on to Anna. Mary distributed the Barrows PTO flower sale information. Barrows "Greenhouse" is offering purple and white flowers this year in celebration of the 350th. Alan reported that the Junior Women's Club is looking for a speaker on February 10. Mary Williams volunteered and will contact the group. Alan read a note from Ed Palmer updating the Committee on his progress on the opening ceremony plans. Rob Bennett is the RMHS youth selected to speak. On motion of Mary Williams, it was voted that Ken Latham should be asked to be the keynote speaker at the opening Ceremonies, and that Clark Booth should be offered an opportunity to speak at another appropriate time. On motion of Everett Blodgett, it was voted that the Chairman of the Steering Committee should recognize past and present members of the 350th and make some brief remarks at the opening Ceremonies. (continued) READING'S 350th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION STEERING COMMITTEE TOWN HALL (S 16 L OWELL STREET O• READING, ILIA 01867 Page 2 Reading's 350th Steering Committee January 25, 1994 Shirley read a letter from a band who is not available for the Parade, and she will pass the note on to the Parade Committee. Shirley also reported that the Reading Business and Professional Women's group would like to help the 350th. It was suggested that they handle a door decoration contest. Susan suggested that something should be done to enhance visual awareness of the schedule of the various events such as signs on the Common, etc. Bob Marcotte reported that he delivered the draft of a letter the 350th Committee could submit to request the special postal cancellation. He also brought in a camera ready copy and offered to hand-deliver it to the Reading Postmaster. On motion of Everett Blodgett, it was voted that the camera ready special cancellation (as presented to the Committee) be adopted. Because the Selectmen have not yet discussed vendor issues, the Committee did not take a vote on Ann Tisdell's offer to produce cachets. The Quannapowitt Players production of "Love Letters" contributed approximately $1200 to the 350th. The Ecumenical Service was well attended and earned a number of rave reviews. The selection process for a parade Grand Marshal was discussed. It was decided to vote on this at a later meeting when Cathy ,Quimby could attend. Budgets Alan distributed a recap of all budget amounts voted to date. Susan presented the current Anniversary Ball Budget and reviewed some of the plans for "A Garden Party," which is the theme. Kings Grant has offered the best catering proposal to date. The Ball Committee would like to keep the cost of tickets at $20 per person. Alan reported that Maurice Donegan of North Reading (508-664-4129) will assist with ticket sales. V. NEXT MEETING - 7:30 p.m., February 8, 1994 VI.
