Conference Room, Reading Town Hall Committee Members in Attendance: Alan Foulds, Everett Blodgett, Ellen Stanton, Shirley Buzderewicz, Paul Sweeney, Mary Williams, and Nancy Smethurst. Susan Theophanis arrived later and Cathy Quimby arrived at 9 p.m. Also Attending: Anna Carroll (350th Inc.) and Ed Palmer I. CALL TO ORDER Alan Foulds called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m. II. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS The minutes of May 24 were approved as read, with one abstention. III. COMMUNICATIONS Shirley received an inquiry from someone who wanted 350th information and memorabilia. A number of committee members have been contacted by residents who are upset that the t-shirts and sweatshirts are sold out. Joshua Eaton held its birthday celebration and island dedication today. IV. OTHER BUSINESS Budget Review Shirley reported a surplus of about $12,000 at present. She had also received a number of bills, but also a relatively equal number of receipts. Souvenirs on motion of Everett Blodgett, seconded by Ellen Stanton, it was voted to authorize Paul Sweeney to negotiate with Don Welford/Tom O'Connor of RTS Enterprises to arrange for delivery by Saturday of not more than 400 T-shirts in large and extra large sizes. How Reading Grew Up also could be sold at some of the souvenir outlets. (continued) READING'S 350th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION STEERING COMMITTEE TOWN HALL, Q~ 16 LOWEL,L STREET c4 READING, MA 01867 Page 2 Reading's 350th Steering Committee May 31, 1994 Books On motion of Everett Blodgett, seconded by Susan Theophanis, it was voted to donate the total of a dozen copies of At Wood End as follows: one each to the other Readings who attended opening ceremonies, the Library of Congress, the Reading library and to the six major donors. The book will be distributed and sold on Wednesday at the library from 4-8 p.m. Officials' Ribbons Mary has the ribbons and will distribute them according to the committee requests. Parade Committee Steering Committee members who want to ride in the parade should be at Birch Meadow by 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. A limited number of tickets for the reviewing stand will be issued for families of Committee members. Grand Ball The band leader added a trumpet because of the number of people who will attend. Steering Committee members should be at the Field House at 7:15-7:30 for a formal photograph. Jubileve Over 3000 buttons have been sold. The price is now $5.00. Understanding Handicaps is sponsoring two separate acts, but the program incorrectly identifies the sponsor as MassBank. Publicity articles will help to correct this information. More volunteers are needed. Publicity Because of graduation and Memorial Day, Mary is finding it almost impossible to get articles in the Chronicle this week. Reading Day The Town Manager met with Mr. Hanley, the sound system vendor, and resolved liability issues. Paul distributed the proposed schedule of events. V.
