The meeting was called to order at 7 235 P.M. by W. I-•I4_eghes

A motion was made by Mr u J. Donovan to accept the minutes of
March 9, 1988, seconded by Mr. L. Warnock. The votes was
unanimous.

Mr. Patrick Lane and Mr-. Al t°red, D.:.,r.ghty, representing a

Committee requesting the use of a field an Thursdays

starting the end of April and going t:.hraa August. A schedule
w,i l l be presented to the committee before games start. Mr.
Lane and Mr. Doughty were cautioned to check with Mr.
Carroll regarding field policies.
A motion was made by L .Warnock to assign the Addison Wesley
group Kil l am Field. The motion was seconded by J.Danovan
and they vote was unanimous.

After discussion 9 the Recreation Committee gave permission
to Reading United Soccer, representatives, Mr. John Ronsine
and I"1r„ Richard Boyd to use Sturgis Field twice a week
(Monday and Thursdays) with a third day to be approved.

Chris Copeland, speaking for Mr. Daniel I..~yi"7Ii who was unable
t to attend the recreation committee meeting, presented plans
to condui::t._si__Nar<iate Clinic. Mrs. Donovan praised the program,
conducted in the past and recommended approval. The
committee agreed and riot::icM: for registration will be
forth-coming.,

Mr. t'°'r<ank: Driscoll representing Reading Yo!.at.•.h Softball made
a request to the R!-ec::rMe„a.t: ion Committee to der}ve31 ope:•r :aa field
for the use of Reading Youth Softball and Summer Softball
exclusively. Mir`. Driscoll indicated that this could be clc:ne
by eliminating the mound at Birch Meadow tennis court field.

have the Reading Public Works Department, in c-onjunction
with Reading 'r'oa_at.h Softball remove the mound and r"epair" the
existing sprinkler sy's'tem y if necessary. The motion was
seconded by Mr. R.Fotino and the vote was unanimous.

Christi Copel sand and Larry Warnock toured the proposed
Exercise Trail and recommended to the committee that the
course route be at the Birch Meadow complex, to include 10
stations in the hill area behind the Field House and ten
stations to be included in the wooded area adjacent to the
hill area near the lighted softball field. The Trail is to
be completed w:i't:h:i.f"t 90 days:", should not exceed $15,000.00 in
cost and should be one to one and one-•-heal f miles in length,
A motion was made by Mr. G. Donovan to accept the proposal
and =week bids can construction of the Exercise Trail. Th'ic:
motion wr."t,s seconded by Mr'`.R. Foti!no and the vote was
unanimous.
A letter has been received from MPS Industries, Inc.
requesting bid application form:: for park and playground
"Spinning Wheel" spring information brochure has been
received.
An informative article regarding softball sliding injuries
has been received from Ruth Cagan.
Approvatl was granted by the committee for the Basketball and
Baseball Clinics, there no longer being conflicts concerning
dates.

The Parks Committee canvassed all the parks in town and
prioritized tasks and inventory at each location.
The situation at Washington Park has been resolved, and a
Back-stop will be installed.

A discussion took place concerning Special Olympics and the
possibility of the Reading Recreation Department sponsoring
the event. Tinkip committee will gather" information to includ(
possible public meeting. Mr.''. L. Warnock was appointed
chairman of the Special Olympics Committee.

Summer Pro
Registration date will be June 4th at Coolidge Junior High
.°ichool 9 from A.M. to 12 noon.
Following discussion by the committee a motion was made by
Mr. L.Warnack to increase all Summer Program fees $5.00.
Mr. G. Donavan seconded the motion and the vote was
unanimous.
A Brochure of all simmer Programs offered will be available
an registration day.
Chris Copeland informed the Committee that the filtration
system at. the pool should be completed by the middle of May.
Mr. Hughes informed the committee that he will examine the
Recreation Department By-Laws to determine if
re-organization of officers should take place at this t,ime n
He will have this information for the May meeting.
Mr u Hughes also reminded rteei"fIber^s who need to register intent
to continue committee membership should do this before the
end of June.
'There being no further bussinesss9 a motion was made by Mira G.
Donavan to adjourn the meetino. Mr. L. Warnock seconded
thlisy the vote was, unanipous and the meeting adjourned at
9:30 P.M.
