The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm. by Wm. Hughes, Jr.
Members present: Wm. Hughes, Jr., P. Hichborn, R. Fotino,
C. Rybicki, J. Connelly, L. Warnock, J. Fallon, J. Donovan,
R. Coco
Members not present: C. Catalfamo
Associate Members: K. Kaminer

Minutes
C. Copeland recommended to strike the Washington park note from
the Old Business of the April minutes.
A motion was made by and seconded by L. Warnock to accept
the minutes with C. Copeland's recommendation. 6 in favor. 2
abstained.
Correspondence
Spinning Wheel information was distributed and discussed.
A memo to Ted McIntire of companies interested in bidding for
the Hunt Memorial park equipment and/or Exercise Trail was
distributed. C. Copeland asked the committee to inform her of
other.companies which might be interested.
The Arts Council notified the supervisor that $1500 was granted
from the Arts Lottery to hold the "Touch of Class" concerts
again. A suggestion was made to investigate a new method for
selecting concert bands, such as the Woburn City Band. The
director lives in Reading and his name is John , living
on Summer Avenue.
Parking at Town Hall is permitted in designated stalls and
there has been a problem with people parking in the neighboring
residence's parking area.
P. Hichborn submitted his resignation as a recreation committee
member. He is moving his family to North Andover. A vacancy will
be posted with the Town Clerk and the Selectmen's Office will be
informed.
Summer 1988 Programs
C. Copeland went through all the programs and procedures for
all offered programs for the 1988 season. A question from J.
Fallon in regards to restricting camp size was raised.
There will be a ,restriction of 20 boys and 20 girls for each camp.
Recreation committee members were encouraged to be in attendance
at registration, Saturday, June 4, 1988, from 8 am. - 12 noon, at
Coolidge Middle School.
The possibility of having a tennis program was asked. C. Copeland
is in touch with the appropriate persons to organize.
J. Connelly had heard from a previous summer employee
questioning when he will be notified of upcoming employment. The
supervisor will contact.
Old Business
R. Fotino asked the status of the pool. It is scheduled to open
Memorial Day weekend for weekends until school ends June 24; then
also evenings, 3 pm. - 7 pm.
There are possible mechanical problems with the pool and contractor.
Ted McIntire is to update Bill Hughes on the status. Walkways
around the pool have sunk over the winter.
The kickboard is finished at the Birch Meadow area. Bud Dickey
and his crew from the Public Works department did a great job.
The kickboard will be dedicated next Tuesday, May 17, 1988.
May 24, 1988, has been named Reading Track Day by the Selectmen.
A reception at Coolidge Middle School to honor the boys varsity
track record of 152 straight wins (17 years) will be held that
evening. The MIAA will be there to present a plaque. Former
captains and teams members are encouraged to attend.
B. Hughes questioned the status of,summer employment for
recreation. The supervisor said everything was fine. She is
looking for more swim instructors.
The diving board structure will be removed before swim instruction
begins.
New Business
The summer program registration was again announced.
J. Donovan motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:27pm. P. Hichborn
seconded the motioned. All in favor.
