Minutes
A motion was made by Mr. John Fallon to amend the minutes of
September 14 1983, to read, (page 5 - under, Mr. P.
Hechenbleikner - Town Manager in addition to the
disappointment of the committee regarding Mr.
Hechenbleikner`s changing the pool hours, the committee
feels the Town Manager ( Mr. Hechenbleikner), exceeded his
authority to change the policy without any consultation with
the committee. Further Mr. Fallon stated Mr.
Hechenbleikner's action was in violation of the Town
Charter, hence his action was illegal. Mr. Larry Warnock
moved to accept the minutes as amended. Ms. Beth White
O'Connor secondea the motion ana the vote was unanimous.
` Mr. Dan Lynn - Karate Tournament Proposal
J. Conne 1 1 y made a rr:ot 1 on to grant the proposal
presented by Mr. Dan Lynn to run a Karate Tournament at
Hawks Fielahouse on a date yet to be determined, in March,
April or May of 1989. Custodial and police fees will be
covered by the Tournament. 10% of the gross will be paid to
the Recreation Division, Unless changed by the Recreation
Comrnitr,ee. Mr. Fotino seconded the motion. The vote was
unan imous.
Mr. Peter Moscarielio - Permanent Bases Proposal
Mr. John Fallon moved to grant the proposal presented by
Peter Moscariello to install permanent bases at Morton
r'ie a. The motion was seconaea by Beth White O'Connor. The
vote was F to i, with Mr. L. Warnock abstaining.
Barbara Hollis - Girls Basketball Proposal
Barbara Hollis was scheduled to appear before the committee
to present a Girls Basketball -Proposal. She was unable to
attend and Chris Copeland attempted to reply to questions
posea by the committee members. The in-depth questioning
concerning the proposal prompted Mr. Connelly to ask that
the committee proceed as far as possible and come back to
the November meeting with more details.
CGCreapondence
Mr. John Fallon moved to accept all correspondence, seconded
by Mr. L. Warnock. The vote was unanimous.
Received -
A memoranaum from Peter Hechenbieikner regarding peddlers.
A note of explanation and thank you from Phil Vaccaro,
"Soccer Doctor Camp", with a check in the amount of
$298.00. This amount represents 10% of tuition fees.
Revised Town of Reading Management calendar.
A ietrer from the Finance Committee informing the Recreation
Committee, aue to the reduced size of the finance committee,
from 15 to 9 members, they ao not have the manpower
available to maintain liasons with each committee in town,
however, if at any time you want to have a finance committee
member attend a meeting, please contact Mr. Donald Alien.
A thank you letter and token payment in the amount of $50.00
from the Metro Boston Commissioner of Amateur Association
for use of field lights,
Acknowledgement of payment in the amount of $1,000.00 to the
music performance trust funds.
A thank you letter for the use of Reading facilities this
past summer, from MassbanK.
A memorandum from P. Hechenbleikner regarding a missing
book.
Enclosed, also find a copy of letter sent to Reading United
Soccer Club, attention Mr. Michael Haley, in regard to trash
at. Parker Middle School lower field. Chris Copeland
forrile11y requested that Reading United Soccer purchase trash
barrels immediately to alleviate the existing problem.
Current Programs

offered by the Recreation Division. They include
Basketball, Volleyball and Open Recreation at Hawk's
Fieldhouse. Mr. Fallon requested any elaboration on the
Basketball Travel Team be tabled until next months meeting
(November), at which time all pertinent data would be
avaiiable for committee review.
faster Park Plan
Mr. R, Fotino, chairperson of the Master Park Plan indicated
initial work has begun at his committee level on the Plan.
He enlisted the on-going support of his committee members,
as the accumulation of a great deal of data will be required
ana it is quite necessary to be as thorough as possible to
make the Plan meaningful. The next committee meeting will
be on October 19. A visit to parks and facilities is
planned for October lard at 7:3p

Oid Business
Chris Copeland informed the committee that in regard to the
Community Playground, we are still waiting for the deed to
Memorial Park.
Chris Copeland also informed the committee that in regard to
the Wading Pool, we are waiting for information from the
Department of Public Works.
The Exercise Trail should be completed by November 21st
New Business
Town of Reading Birthday Celebration
The Committee agreed that the Birthday Celebration does not
come under the Recreation Division at this time.
There being no further business, Mr. Fotino moved to adjourn
the meeting at 10:00 P.M. Beth White O'Connor seconded the
motion and the vote was unanimous,
