HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-06-13 Recreation Committee MinutesJune 13, 1990 A meeting of the Recreation Committee was called to order at 7:35p.m. by Chairman J Fallon. Members present were C. Swymer, J.Connelly, C. Kaminer, M. Williams, J. Pacino, Associate Members F. Conover, T. McGrath, J. Mullen & S Sullivan and citizen Sharon Graves. First order of business was the approval of minutes of May 19. Motion to accept by J. Pacino, seconded by C. Kaminer. 6-0 unanimous. Next was the approval of minutes of May 24. C. Kaminer moved to accept. C. Swymer seconded passed 4-0-2 abstained. Under Citizen Input, Sharon Graves made a presentation to use the Town Pool for Water Aerobics. Her presentation was to use the pool after hours 1 or 2 weekdays or 1 weekday and Saturday morn- ing. She would like to run 4 week sessions. Ms. Graves asked for direction in running the program in Reading. She felt it would be successful since she has run it in Wakefield with much success. Many questions and concerns were brought up including how it would be funded, who would be responsible for lifeguards, advertising. Mr. Pacino made a motion to go along with running the Graves Water Aerobics Classes as previous programs are run. Let Ms. Graves charge what she wants , she will be responsible for lifeguards and any extrodinary expenses; Recreation will get 150 of gross to go in the Revolving Fund. Classes to be at 8:00p.m. Wed. and Sat. morning to be determined by the Recreation Supervisor. Mr. Pacino motioned to approve, seconded by C. Swymer. Passed 6-0 The next order of business was a letter from Joan Lawrence of the YMCA requesting pool usage. The Y was asking for 2:00 -2:45 and 3:00 - 3:45 for public swim at the same cost as last year - $.50 per 45 minutes. Discussion followed on whether to increase the fee this year. Red Sneakers is paying $10.00 per student for 45 minutes per 3 week session. J. Pacino moved to allow the YMCA to use the pool. 6-0 unanimous. C Swymer motioned to allow $.50 per 45 minutes session for the YMCA - seconded by M. Williams, with stipulation that next year they be informed of price increase. Passed 6-0. Also under correspondence was a letter from REd Sneakers request- ing pool time. C. Swymer made a motion that the same fee be charged as the YMCA. C. Kaminer seconded. 1-5 opposed. J. Connelly moved to accept $10.00 per 45 minutes session per student. J. Pacino seconded. Passed 5-1 1 Under the Supervisor's Report Mr. Giordano gave a review of the Summer Programs, stating they had to cut the Jr. Camp, the 4th session of the Day Camp and Teen Week; because of this , two counselors had to be let go. Mr. Giordano also stated they were short of funds for the Summer Concerts. Ms Swymer stated Pop Warner would donate $100.00. It was decided that next year ad- vertising would be done much earlier. Mr. Giordano felt brochure should go out by February or March with a total mail-in registra- tion until a certain date. Under new business Mr. Fallon announced Beth White O'Connor was not re-applying for re appointment. He also announced Larry War- nock had sent a letter of resignation. Ms Williams motioned to adjourn at 9:40. Passed 6-0 AA- 2
