AUGUST 8, 1990
A meeting of the Recreation Committee was called to order at 7:30p.m
by Chairman John Fallon. In attendance were Committee Members C. Swymer,
R. Fotino, J. Pacino, F. Conover, T. McGrath, also associate members
J. Mullen, L Salter, S. Quinlan.
The minutes of the July 11, 1990 were approved as amended. F. Conover
moved, J. Pacino seconded. unanimous.
CORRESPONDENCE
A letter from the Woburn City Band was discussed on when the rained
out concert would be rescheduled. It was decided the "Touch of
Class Concerts" Committee would investigate a possible Holiday
Concert and make a report in September.
Also discussed was the memo from the Master Plan Advisory Commi-
ttee. T. McGrath would incorporate some ideas from the Master
Park Plan.
SUPERVISOR"S REPORT
Ms. Wexler went over the report. She stated the Baby Show had been
a great success. Over 75 children had registered and every child
received a prize.
The "Touch of Class" Concerts and "Theater in the Green" were very
popular.
CITIZEN INPUT
Mrs Joan Hodges and her son. Justin Hodges both spoke on teen issues.
Mrs. Hodges felt there should be a Youth Center where the teens could
go. There is nothing in town for the youths. She said she would
be willing to help in maybe getting some support from churches,parents
etc. to get something started.
Justin also spoke on the lack of a Youth Center. He also spoke
about the passibility of a skateboard park. Much discussion
followed on the need and possible location of a Youth Center. It
was decided the "Teen Center Sub Committee" would explore possible
locations and to have Justin serve as an aide to the committee
members. On the issue of skateboarding, Mr. Fallon. stated they had
schedule different people to come before the board who expressed
interest in this before but never showed up. He would have to hear
from more than one person expressing interest in a park before
pursuing it. Be suggested Justin get mor information on how other
towns handle the liability issue, also get more support from friends
and to get on the agenda for another meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
Ms. Swymer brought up concerns regarding the early release days
for the schools. The businesses have complained about the
children hanging out. Ms. Wexler stated she was thinking of
having field trips on these afternoons.
Ms Salter stated she had no success when contacting businesses
about placement of Pepsi vending machines. Mr Conover suggested
letters be sent to local businesses explaining the possible
placement of machines to help Recreation.
NEW BUSINESS
J. Fallon discussed a meeting he had with R. Cogan and P. Hechenbleikner
regarding the revolving account. He hopes by FY92 all programs
will be self supporting. Also discussed was a letter sent toLesley
from P. Hechenbleikner regarding assignment of Memorial Park. A new
form for facility use will be instituted
T. McGrath asked about the status of Ms. Wexler's job. Mr. Fallon
stated how pleased he was with Ms Wexler and was going to write
tip an evaluation report.
Mr. Fallon announced September 22 will be Town Boards Dept. Head
Retreat Day. Also the October Recreation Meeting will be held
the third Wednesday to accomodate a representative of Camp Hope.
Mr. Fallon reminded members of sub- committees if they have a
formal meeting they must post it.
