January 16, 1991
A meeting of the Recreation Committee was called to order by
Chairman J. Fallon at 8:00. In attendance were C. Swymer,
C.Kaminer, T. McGrath, assoc members S. Sullivan, S Quinlan, L
Salter. J. Pacino arrived at 8:00p.m..
J. Fallon commented on a letter from Town Counsel re: the Revolv-
ing Fund. Also, a letter of resignation from Richard Fotino was
accepted with regret. J. Fallon reported to the Recreation Com-
mittee that the original budget presented last month had a
deficit of $4000, now after the Director reworked the figures
there was a surplus of $1500. He made a suggestion if extra
monies were ever needed they could look at the possibility of
closing the pool at 7:00p.m. instead of 8:00 with a savings of
$1500.
L Wexler discussed the Supervisor's Report. The Museum of
Science trip has not had much interest. The RMLD was not inter-
ested in putting in meters at `the tennis courts for lights. J.
Fallon would recommend to RMLD that Recreation would not light
the tennis courts and the costs of the lighted softball fields
would be passed on to the users. He also stated past due ac-
counts would have to bepaid before issuance of permits.
The Summer Program brochure would be going to the printer the end
of February and registration would be in March.
At 8:00p.m. Drew Bililies gave a presentation of his program
Spinning Wheels. He stated among other things that he carried a
million dollars in insurance, that he had 60-70 parents very
pleased with the program and he would be willing to have a
fundraiser if needed. Much discussion followed. J. Fallon ques-
tioned the lack of reimbursement from the cherry sheets;
originally it was anticipated they would get 50% back from the
state. Also he believed the fees over and above charged to Read-
ing children would be returned. Mr. Bililies stated there was a
$5.00 extra fee which he would be willing to return. It was
decided Mr. Bilillies would give Ms Wexler the names of in-
dividuals in other communities to contact that are receiving
reimbursement so she could pursue reimbursement for Reading.
The minutes of the December 12, 1990 were approved. unanimous
Ms Wexler presented her new programs. She would like to try a
Teen Week again this summer. It would be one trip a week for 8
weeks with sign up for individual trips. Also she would like to
1
try a few dances for teens- middle school age. She had not
figured the cost yet. Another program she wanted to try again
was a Junior Camp for pre-kindergarten. It would run 5 days a
week for 2 weeks sessions, 9-12. A unanimous vote in favor of
the programs was taken.
Ms Wexler would like to run a concert as a fundraiser in the
Spring featuring David Polansky. The cost would be $4.00 per
child.
L Salter discussed the possibility of having a Reading Annual
Tennis Open. She will write something for the paper with the
date being the end of June.
