HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-07-28 Recreation Committee MinutesRecreation Minutes July 28, 1993 3_ ' i The meeting of the Recreation Committee came to order at 8:00pm, Wed., July 28, 1993 in the Conference Room at Town Hall. Present at the meeting were members K. Kaminer, J. Pacino, F. Conocver, G. Richards, S. Cavicchi, C. Campbell, associate member G. Roberts, Steve Kajander, Rec supervisor. Approval of the minutes of June was motioned by J. Pacino and seconded by S. Cavicchi. The vote was 5-0-0 in favor with new member C. Campbell abstaining, Kate opened up the meeting with a discussion about changing the price for the third swimming session which had to be shortened because of the early back to school date. It was proposed to shorten the time period to 12 days and to charge $45. Gordon Richards motioned to make the third session 12 days @ $45. S. Cavicchi seconded. the vote 6-0-0 in favor. The next issue under New Business had to do with new playground equipment purchased by the Safety Committee at Barrows School PTO group. Representing the committee was Joanne Gregorowicz, along with other members. Joanne presented a design of the existing playground and detailed exactly what equipment would be in- stalled. A small scale model was also presented. The committee is looking for approval to go ahead and install by the end of Sept 93. J Pacino made a motion to accept the PTO's proposal and Susan seconded. 6-0-0 approved. It was then decided that the Selectmen must approve the proposal before the equipment could be installed. Next up under New Business was the use of "Vidbel's Olde Tyme Circus" advance clown, to perform for our summer camp kids. It is a chance for the town recreation program to make available a quality clown act for the camp children, free of charge. In a related issue, the YMCA director, Jesse Mraz was requesting usage of our pool bathrooms for the hours that the show would be in progress, approximately 6pm- 10pm on Aug. 19th. Fred Conover made a motion to permit the clown act and usage of our pool restrooms. C. Campbell seconded the motion. The vote was 6-0-0 for the clown and 5 yes 1 opposed for the restroom usage. J. Pacino being the lone vote. At this point in the meeting, G. Richards started talk on the mishap which had taken place over the previous weekend. All mem- bers agreed with the corrections that had been implemented to in- sure that the accident would not happen again. Next, the committee voted 5-0-0 to have K. Kaminer_ continue as chairperson and 5-0-0 to have F. Conover continue as Vice Chair- person. Finally under New Business, it was voted 6-0-0 to hold a Fall Tennis Tournament in Sept. J. Pacino made a motion and F. Con- over seconded. S. Kajander will run the event, which will have Mens Doubles A & B draws, Ladies Doubles A & B draws and a mixed draw. It will be called Birch Meadows Doubles Classic and take place the 25th and 26th of September. Lorraine and Gary offered their help in recruiting some of the local players, We set a small entry fee of $15 / team to attract as many players as we can. Steve gave a quick review about is going well. Gary did the same the Friends of Recreation ran. but next year t-shirts should be report on the field conditions, made a quick guest appearance playgrounds, and talked about the the summer camps, basically all with the tennis tournament that Good numbers, great tournament used again. Gordon reviewed his and Peter Hechenbleikner, who gave a short review of our Capital Improvements Comm. At 10:30pm, F. Conover made a motion for adjournment which was seconded by Susan. 6-0-0.
