Issue of appointments and re-appointments were discussed. Tom
Zaya and Gary Roberts discussed reasons for non-renewal of ap-
plication. Reasons were time constraints, and marriage. New ap-
plicants were reviewed. It was pointed out that all of the ap-
plicants applied at least one year ago. It was also pointed out
that those declaring recreation as a third choice for a com-
mittee, would not be recommended for appointment by the recrea-
tion committee.
Old Business Discussed:
Conover asked question on T-Shirt Bids for in town vs. out of
town companies. Conover wanted significant bids to be in writing
and not just verbal. Awarding process was looked to consider in
town vs. out of town companies.
Conover also brought up basketball financial figures of last
year. Concerned with the amount of loss taken by the recreation
committee. Kaminer explained, an audit is to take place for the
basketball and travel basketball programs.
Subcommittee Reports
Teen Center: Salter reported on continued interaction with the
Reading Rotary Club. Kaminer and Connelly discussed up coming
pool party. Tom Zaya raised issue of a Parent run Dance for both
Parker and Coolidge combined.
It was felt that the school department should look into this mat-
ter. Feelings were, if the schools did not feel that this was a
good idea, then a permit should not be released. Cavicchi will
somehow bring this issue up at the next school committee meeting.
Substance Abuse: No Report
Tennis Tournament: Salter explained what was going on in the
tournament and the current situation with the nets. Issue was
discussed. Proposal first made to get cheaper nets if we could
and try those nets out for a season. Joe called contractor and
answer was no, cheap nets could not be attained in time for tour-
nament. Decision was then made to do what we could to get nets
up for tournament. Joe called Contractor and made meeting for
8:00 next morning between Joe, Gary, and Chuck.
Field plans. for Nike site were looked at and reviewed. Plans
looked good to the committee. It was suggested that Joe, Gordy,
and John get together and compare the latest field plans with the
recreation park planning report.
