HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-01-10 Recreation Committee Minutes~E c' I E_D Recreation Committee Minutes a January 10, 1996 The Recreation Committee meeting came to .order on January 10, 1996 at 7:30 PM in the Conference Room at the Town Hall. Committee members in attendance included Lorraine Salter, Kate Kaminer, Chris Campbell, John Pacino, and John McGrath. Also in attendance was Recreation Administrator Joe Connelly and Reading Men's Softball Director Mike Moscariello. Minutes of the December 13, 1995 meeting were approved on a motion by Campbell, seconded by Salter, 5-0-0. New Business: Reading Men's Softball Director Mike Moscariello asked the Committee to extend their permit to allow 2 out of town teams to participate in the A Division and allow 3 out of town players to participate per team in the A Division. Connelly briefly explained the request. Moscariello reviewed the request and summarized last season's results. The Committee discussed this issue. Campbell motioned to accept the proposal to continue the practice of allowing 2 out of town teams and 3 out of town participants per team in the RMSL "A" Division. The motion was seconded by Salter, 5-0-0. Reading Men's Softball requested special permits for Sunday Morning at 10:00 for it's three tournaments. The Committee's consensus was to approve the motion however an official vote will be taken at the February meeting. Kaminer stated that the 12:00 start rule was in place and exceptions should not continue to be made. Kaminer believes that if exceptions are going to be made the rule should be abolished. Moscariello thanked the Committee for taking a stand on the $10 field fee. Moscariello exited the meeting at 8:10 PM. Connelly reviewed the 1996 Summer Program Fees. Connelly explained that these fees will continue to move the Recreation Division toward a break-even point. The Committee discussed the fee proposal. Salter motioned to accept the fees as proposed with the only change being to offer a second child discount for Summer Camp of $5, seconded by McGrath, approved 5-0-0. Connelly explained to the Committee the current situation with the Summer Tennis Program. Connelly reviewed the proposals by Carol Ann Duffy and Courtney Gillman to take over the Summer Tennis program. Connelly presented the Committee with the positive and negative aspects of both tennis professionals. The Committee discussed both proposals. The Committee decided to endorse Courtney Gillman as their first choice. Connelly will contact Gillman and explain the Summer clinic procedure. If Gillman feels 'he can not meet all that is required, the program will be offered to Carol Ann Duffy. Motion presented by Salter, seconded by Campbell, approved 5-0-0. Connelly reviewed the Recreation Administrators report and answered Committee questions. Subcommittee Reports: Teen Center - Salter explained that the Committee will meet in' a couple of weeks to continue to put together their Teen Center proposal. Pacino commented that he will present the Committee with a comparison of what is being offered in surrounding communities. Substance Abuse - No report Salter made a motion to adjourn, seconded by McGrath, approved 5-0-0. The Committee was adjourned at 9:10 PM.
