Adaptive Reuse:
o Downtown Steering Committee - Town has $230K grant - RFP is being prepared by
Jonathan. Committee for grant will need member from Historic Commission. It was
voted for Virginia Adams to be Historical Commission Rep. David to write letter to
Jonathan.
Harden Street - Grant applied for to rehab blighted buildings. Jonathan would like
rep. from Historical Commission. It was voted the Gladys would be our rep.
o Sign Bylaw - Town to revise Sign bylaw in near future. Jonathan would like rep.
from Historical Commission. It was voted the Roberta would be our rep.
32 John Street - (John Damon house) Virginia and Roberta visited house but did
not get inside. It is being purchased by Dave Barrett about Jan. 1st from present
owners would have owned it since 1965. It is not on our inventory.
Information:
o Ed is working with Boston Corporate Art to get photos for the interior of Pearl Street
School (Longwood Place @ Reading). They want to have enlargements on walls by
10/10/96. They want our poor farm photo to copy. A public open house is planned
for 11/3/96.
Streetscape:
o Common - Discussion on the closing of Lowell Street was held. Ed feels closing will
hurt other areas of common. Commission did not reach a consensus on feelings on
the issue.
o Inventory - 8 houses in "Rooftrees" are not on inventory but all built before 1800.
They are :
64 Bay State Road (moved there)
529 Franklin Street
32 John Street (moved up to street)
337 Pearl Street (greatly altered)
25 School Street (moved from near Common)
165 South Street ( greatly altered)
65 Wakefield Street
Virginia and Roberta to prepare/update sheet on these to distribute to
members for consideration for listing on inventory.
0 Stone Walls - Person on Westcroft Road inquired if we protected stone walls and if
we knew someone was moving stones to put around their kennel.
Other Business:
{ o May Preservation Week - Ed suggested we feature Eleanor Bishop in our program.
We should have some of the collection in order by that time for viewing.
o Celebration Committee - Gladys to prepare a grant application to have more glass
plate negative printed.
