HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-06-03 Historical Commission MinutesMinutes Reading Historical Commission June 3, 1997 Meeting convened at 7:35 p.m. Regular members present: Virginia Adams, David O'Sullivan, Roberta Sullivan Associate members present: Colonel Wilbar Hoxie, Gladys Montgomery Jones, Louise Sandberg, Alan Ulrich Minutes recorded by Gladys Montgomery Jones Treasurer's Report (Roberta): Regular account contains $277.58; special account totals $164.75. Expenditures include $16 for gift for departing member Ed Palmer, $3.00 to Roberta for priority mail to Mass Historical re: Damon house. Need to spend $160.09 for archival products plus credit of $48.80 with University Products for archival materials. Virginia moved and Ed.seconded spending balance of accounts on archival materials. Passed 3-0-0. Administration: • The Town Manager promises to provide a new computer soon. Correspondence: • Rep. Jones request for constituent • letter to Chronicle re: Civil War monument in Laurel Hill that was the 2nd one in Massachusetts General: • Bandstand: A letter from interested citizens came in supporting the RHC position not to place the structure on the Common. • Tax benefits for historic restoration: Virginia to do letter for Board of Assessors. • Letter to Library: Roberta moved to send May 5 draft letter to library as corrected; Virginia seconded. Passed 3-0-0. • Prints from glass plate negatives with 350th funding: Ed to follow up in the fall. Historic Properties: • Longwood Place/the Pearl Street School: Mass Historical Commission to present award to developers at ceremony on June 14 to be attended by RHC members. Virginia and Roberta to follow up. Gladys to take photo to the Chronicle. • 30-32 John Street: Mass Historical reviewing application to place the Damon House on the state's Register of Historic Places; should have answer tomorrow.
