of June 4, 1981.
E. Childress called the meeting to order in Room 133, RMHS at
7:37 PM with J. Shaw and K. Messina present.

A Letter from the Town Clerk's.office re: interested candidates
for``'Planning Board -membership; was read. Selectman O'Brien will
forward the name of th;g~interested citizen tha-Ct fas a degree in
Urban Planning to the Planning Board for their review.
The Secretary was requested to send a letter to the Reading
Chronicle asking that they publish a request for any interested
citizen wishing to serve on the Planning Board to make such an
application in the Town Clerk's office.
At 7;45 PM, Mr. Mitchel arrived and Ms. Childress turned over
the meeting to the Acting Chairman-to cond t..
After a brief review, Mr. Mitchel presented the facts as agreed
in conversation with Selectmen Chairman, J. Price. The Chronicle
will be informed of the vacancy and asked to publish a request
that any interested citizen make an application to Town Clerk
on or before June 15, 1981. The Planning Board can then conduct
interviews for interested persons on Thursday, June 18, 1981.
Mr. Mitchel will contact Mr. Sturm, as,a recently retired~nember
of the Planning Board to see if he has any interest in returing
to serve on the Board.
The vacancy created by Mr. Zorabedian's resignation will be filled
by a citizen that will have to seek election to the Board at the
next general Town election.
The Board has decided not to elect officers until such time as
the vacancy is filled and the Board is back to full membership.
Town Meeting Issues
Highland School mothballing will be the first copic for discussion
at ToT•7,n Me^ting tonight. The secretary was asked to obtain the
information prepared by Mr. Zorabedian on this subject and bring
it to Town Meeting for Mr. Mitchel.
The Board decided that it would relate only a brief summary of
the survey conducted on the Highland School reuse.
Ms. Adams.of the. Historical Commission presented a letter to
Mr. Mitchel re: Highland School. The letter stated that the
Highland School is one building in Town with architectural and
historical significance, especially significant-to the Town as
a memorial to the plans and ideals of the, Town at the time it
was built; it also was an ornament of the Town's environment.

The Historical Commission requests that they be allowed to have
input into future use considerations for this building.
The Board discussed some of the alternatives as presented in the
responses to the questionnaire. Elderly day care was discussed.
The Board felt this to be a good use for the Town butnot a good
use for that large a building.
Upon a motion duly made and seconded, the Board unanimously voted
to adjourn at 8:10 PM. The next meeting will be Monday, June
8, 1981-in Room 133, RMHS.
