HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989-03-13 Council on Aging MinutesCouncil on Aging Board Meeting Room 16 - Town Hall March 13, 1989 Present: Gladys Cail, Barbara Doucette, Dorothy Foxon, Gail Rourke, Loretta Spaulding, Irving Stackpole, Lois Bond Absent: Ginny Lane, Linda Nordberg, Barbara Ritchie, Ruth Vitkovich Meeting was called to order at 5:40 p.m. by Chairperson Gladys Cail in Room 16 of the Town Hall. Amy Lassman, Marketing Co-ordinator from Somerset Nursing Home, Reading presented information on a new state,certified Adult Day Health Service program at Somerset which it's hoped to open on April 18, 1989. Amy would like from us referrals to Somerset and the use of our van for transportation which brought up the quest- ions of liability and 6 mile radius which would extend beyond Reading. Minutes of the February meeting were accepted on a motion by Loretta Spaulding and seconded by Irving Stackpole. The Treasurer's Report was accepted. Fifty-four percent of a projected sixty-six percent of the budget to date has been spent. The Director's Report was accepted. Updated information included: 1. Attorney Bartley's presentation on Social Security was taped on Channel 3 which will become part of the video library; 2. Garden Club Program is March 15, 1989; 3. Cholesterol Screening at Senior Center - discussion as to whether or not the $7.00 charge would be reimbursable by Med- icaid. Old Business Older Adults has asked to submit in the adult volunteer recognition dinner Fred Perry questioned why Council on Aging does not run bus day trips anymore. Council on Aging voted, in the summer of 1988, to have the local agents provide trips and we would advertise their trips in the news column. Resignation from the Board for the Council of Elder Services was received from Gail Rourke, effective March 14, 1989. Letter received from Cheryl A. Patterson, Trust Officer, Bank of New England regarding giving a financial planning seminar to Council on Aging. The Council felt this and others like it would be a good idea to pursue for people under and over 60 years old and also to write in a disclaimer that Council on Aging does not endorse the company. Quilting Class Field Trip - It was moved by Irving Stackpole and seconded by Dorothy Foxon that the van may take the class on a field trip. Senior Center Study Ad Hoc Committee - It was moved by Loretta Spaulding and seconded by Gail Rourke that the following names be forwarded to Board of Selectmen from the Council for the ad hoc committee.
