Business
1. The minutes of the November 1998 meeting were approved.
2. Correspondence. Ruth Converse has made arrangements to have a choral event on January 1 st,
2000, to tie into the Millennium celebration. It will include most or all of the church choirs, bell
ringers, and parts of the High School music organizations. She said that the group would prefer
Saturday, rather than Friday, because many of the members may have to work on the 31'.
Alan Smith presented ideas he gathered during talks with Priscilla Richardson, a resident who
headed up the San Francisco First Night celebration. Her feelings were that we need a greater
distinction between the uptown events and those at Birch Meadow. Discussion ensued among
committee members as to what the differences should be, and what this committee had already
decided they should be. She also made comments concerning our lack of events for Senior
Citizens. In addition, she has ideas on marketing, which she has offered to help with.
3. Sub-committee Reports.
Uptown 2000 - Ace reported that 4 people have been recruited for a sub-committee. Included are
Jessie Mraz, Joanne Secher, Bill. Lavoie, and Alan Ulrich. In addition, Mary Anastos has offered
to line up venues for that committee. Ace feels that three more people would complete the
committee.
Talent Co-ordinators - Ace told the two co-ordinators that they should look at January through
March as the time frame to line up the bulk of the talent. Once the two heads of Uptown 2000
and Birch Meadow are in place, they will meet with the Talent Committee.
Web Pa;e - Karen reported Ryan Twomey, Jake McAleer, and Ross Anderson, jointly known as
"Silverware Software" will be working on the web page. They developed the site for
"Understanding Disabilities" and the Millennium site, known as "Millennium Party, will be put
on that server, continuing the link to the Town of Reading page.
Birch Meadow - Alan will contact various suggested people to recruit them for the Birch
Meadow celebration, with one of them heading up the project. Alan published a set of "Key
Components" of the Birch Meadow site.
Financial - No report.
Written Communication - Nothing to report.
Corporation Board - Nothing to report.
Industrial Expo - Nothing to report.
Video - Alan F. and Phil Rushworth have begun work on this project. They will report at the
January meeting.
Fund Raising - Ace reported that the T-shirts might be ready by the end of this week. If that
happens, Mary will try to get publicity in the Chronicle, and Dick will sell them at Polar Express.
PSST (Parents Support Student Theater) will sell them at Town Meeting on December 7`h.
Alan reported that we should hear about the Cultural Council grant for the poster contest on
December 15''.
At the next meeting Alan will present a plan for a submission to the Celebration Committee
(350d' Celebration trust).
Ace has suggested as a fundraiser that the Millennium Party update and re-print Know Your
Town, a book put out by the League of Women Voters. It could pay for itself by selling one line
personal messages, similar to those put in the 350`h program.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 PM. to January 13`h, 1999.
