Millennium Steering Committee
January 13, 1999 Meeting # 11
The meeting was convened at 7:06 PM in the Berger Room at Town Hall.
P 12: 21
In attendance: Anna Carroll Foulds, Alan Foulds, Alan Smith, Steve Crook, Dick Stosez, Mary
Williams, and Karen Sawyer. Non-members in attendance: Phil Rushworth from the cable
station.
Business
1. The minutes of the December 1998 meeting were approved.
Correspondence The Committee received notification of a $500 grant from the Reading Cultural
Council for the poster contest.
Anna formally requested the $10,000 from the 350t` celebration trust. She sent a letter to the
Commissioners of Trust.
2. Sub-committee Reports.
Uptown 2000 - Anna (Ace) has found information on button making machines and supplies.
She has offered The Hot Spot in Reading as the sponsor. She also has two volunteers to make all
the buttons; Judy and Ken Smith of Gardner Road.
Talent Co-ordinators - Karen Samatis has talked to Lorraine Dennis. They will meet and Karen
will "drain Lorraine's brain" for information.
Electronic Communication Jake McAleer, Ryan Twomey, Ross Anderson, and Karen Sawyer will
meet to re-design the web page. A "news flash" spot will be added.
Birch Meadow - Alan Smith was unable to meet with Jack Driscoll and Chuck Schena. He has
commitments from Joe Connelly and Bill Endslow.
Financial - No report.
Written Communication - Mary reported that articles concerning shirt sales appeared in both the
Chronicle and Advocate. She also stated that reporter Owen MacDonald has been assigned to
Millennium Party news for the Chronicle.
Corporation Board - Ace (Anna) reported that the Corporation now has a bank account at
Massbank.
Industrial Expo - Nothing to report. Mary said that she will contact Macy's to see if they would
be interested in being involved.
E
Video - Alan F. and Phil Rushworth reported that they plan to complete research and scripting in
the next several weeks. Camera work will continue through May and editing will be complete in
August. A September 9, 1999 (nines day) sale date is planned. Alan F. will e-mail scripts and
outlines to committee members.
Fund Raising - To date the revenue for t-shirts has been $1,086. The bill from Reading Trophy
and Shirt is for $771.25. There are 3 to 4 pieces left unsold. The next order will be sold from
Dick's car on Haven Street on Jan 21 st, 22nd, and 23rd. as well as at the polls of the special
election on January 27d`.
Discussion ensued concerning the cost of producing the shirts. Dick presented the committee
with prices from various suppliers.

Long-Sleeved T's $9.45
There is no charge for screen set-ups.
There is also a $2.50 per shirt charge for XXL sizes.
Turnaround time is 10 days.
Hartnett of Woburn
T-Shirts $4.35

Hooded Sweat Shirts $16.45
There is also a $120 set-up charge ($60 if we can supply the films).
Turnaround time is 5 to 7 days.
Simply Sisters of Woburn
T-Shirts $6.55
There is also a $90 set-up charge.
Turnaround time is 14 days.
The committee asked Dick to talk to Hartnett again to get more information. Dick will report at
the next meeting about the availability of brands (Hanes, Fruit of the Loom), color prices (ash vs.
white), and how long the plates are kept.
3. Other
Alan will create a draft of the poster contest rules and talk to Nancy Smethurst about her
potential involvement in the project.
The next meeting on February 3rd will be devoted to marketing and fund raising. A week later,
on February 10`h the regular meeting will take place.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 PM. to February 3rd, 1999.
