In attendance: Anna Carroll Foulds, Alan Foulds, Karen Sawyer, and Steve Crook. Non-committee members: Karin Samatis, Joanne Secher, and Mary Hatfield Business 1. Minutes The minutes of June 2"d, 1999 were approved. 2. Correspondence Anna (Ace) reported that she appeared on "Ask The Town Manager", on RCTV Channel 9, hosted by Town Manager, Peter Hechenbleikner, and Karen Sawyer. 3. Sub-committee reports Uptown 2000 - Karin Samatis provided a proposed outline showing the "decades" venues. Although in the formative stages it included the following items: Midnight on the Common Under the Tent Music Street Exhibit Hall Reading Photographic Society Senior Center Reading Art Association Reading Antiquarian Society 1920 Harold Bond/QP 1930 First Baptist Church Swing Dance Contest/lessons (later day/evening) Movie of the building of Memorial Park 1940 Old South Church Fred Foy/Radio Show Reading Community Singers Colonial Chorus 1950 Masonic Hall 1960 First Congregational Church 1970 Knights of Columbus 1980 First Baptist Church (earlier in the day) Elvis impersonator contest Fifties rock n' roll 50's television clips 1960's Coffee House Eddie Dee 60's Rock n' Roll "Not Fade Away" Steve Sommers Poetry Slam Disco Night/Dance Contest Reading Academy Awards (Clotrudis) Film Festival (Michael Colford) Karin Samatis also said that the Reading Cultural Council may make its annual arts award presentation during the evening. Ace is looking into the possibility of having events kicked off by a 100-year-old woman from Longwood. Birch Meadow 2000 -(Commonly called "The Big Party at the Field House") Cindy Bolivar has had to retract her offer to head up this committee. It was decided by the committee to drop plans for this part of the celebration, instead concentrating on all other aspects of the party. It was felt that a better job could be accomplished by directing the resources to events already in the works. YMCA - Steve will discuss afternoon events with directors at the "Y". Talent Co-ordinators - Karin has spent a lot of time with the Uptown 2000 committee. She is also working with Jane McKenzie, preparing for the concert. Electronic Communication - Karen will remove the Birch Meadow portion of the proposed program from the web site. She will also contact Bell Atlantic about temporary Internet connections. Written Communication - Ace reported that articles calling for volunteers appeared in both (Chronicle and Advocate) newspapers. Industrial Expo - None. Video - Writing is continuing. Phil Rushworth will begin taking pictures as soon as he has the proper equipment. Corporation - Ace met with the Board on Monday, when it was voted to give the Steering Committee a $100 petty cash allowance. $40 was used to purchase a sign. Ace told the committee that no new allotments would be made with a budget. Fund Raising Activities T-shirts - A number of shirts were sold at "Summerfest" Poster - None. Celebration Trust - A grant of $15,000 was made to the Millennium Celebration. It has not yet arrived. Sponsorship Marketing - It was suggested that we find a sponsor for the tent on the Common. Other - None. 6. Open Discussion By general agreement it was decided to instruct Darin Samatis to look for talent that will be paid. A payment amount has not yet been determined. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM. to July 21st, 1999. k'
