In attendance: Anna Carroll Foulds, Alan Foulds, Mary Hatfield, Karen Sawyer, and Steve Crook. Non-committee members: Karin Samatis, Linda Russo Business 1. Minutes The minutes of September 8th, 1999 were approved. 2. Correspondence None 3. Sub-committee reports Uptown 2000 -Joanne Secher has come up with potential children's events. One possibility is a "bucket band" which the committee felt was asking too much money. The schools have confirmed their involvement and decades have been assigned to various schools Big Tent on the Common - Karen Sawyer gave the findings of her search for tent and sound prices: Ultimate Party Rental of Providence gave an estimate of $1,850.00 to include: 60 x 40 pole tent; arched window sides; propane heaters and tanks and a dance floor. Karen later reported that Ultimate does not really want to travel this far on New Year's Eve. Tents for Rent: $3,000.00 World Clock - Mary Williams reported that the schools will not be able to build the map/clock. However, she has contacted the Boy Scouts. Anna (Ace) and Alan met with Steve Trites of Furniture Restoration who expressed a willingness to help with both his carpentry skills and his work space. Karen Sawyer and Mary Hatfield will obtain written estimates on company letterhead, to be submitted to the Reading Co-operative bank. To be consistent, all estimates will include a 40' by 80' tent with sides, heat, light, and full flooring. Midnight - Steve Crook spoke with Ann Marie Brennick at RMLD who told him that separate colors on the trees may be a logistics problem. Steve said he will be the contact from the Steering Committee with any further dealings with the RMLD. The RMLD will look into the possibility of lighting the clock. The Fire Department will also be contacted. Steve will talk to Charlie Peacock about the possible use of a cannon or cannons during the 1812 overture. Linda Russo will check a potential contact with the National Guard for use of their howitzers. Steve brought up the possibility of building a silk hat with confetti. Christine St. Jean will be our contact at Media One. YMCA - Nothing new. Talent Co-ordinators - The following is the tentative assignments of venues: Tent/Common "Music Street" (confirmed $500) Reading Antiquarian Society play Ex. Hall Sr. Center Reading Photographic Society (confirmed) Reading Art Assoc. (confirmed) Reading Society of Craftsmen (confirmed) Background Music, Bay State Bells (con£$400) Film Festival Baptist Church Michael Colford (confirmed) He needs 4 televisions and 4 VCR's History of cinema, promo of Ind. Film Fest 1920's Baptist Church Harold Bond Play - Karin will check with him. 1930's Masonic Hall Swing Dance Lessons Movie - Building of Memorial Park Radio Parlor 1940's Old South Fred Foy/Colonial Chorus Radio Show Reading Community Singers Radio Parlor 1950's Good Shepherd Rex Trailer Karin will check. Fifties Rock & Roll TV Clips 1960's First Cong. 1960's Coffee House - Eddie Dee (confirmed) "Not Fade Away" Steve Sommers (confirmed ) Possible Folk Singer 1970's K of C Jerry Pothier Trio (committed) Disco DJ 80's/90's A.L HallRock - Jason O'Hare, Scott Collins (conf. $250) Techno-mix - Sean Cochran is checking. Karin reported that Joanne Secher contacted two children's acts and obtained prices. "Bucket Brigade" wants $475/hour. "Suspenders", a juggling act offered prices as follows: 2 people, $250, 3 people $350. This is for 2 45 minute acts. It was unclear as to whether the price included both shows. Downeast Revival is currently looking for a sponsor. If successful, they would like to perform in the tent. Electronic Communication - Karen reported that the web site has been updated. Written Communication - In future press releases the Millennium Chorus will not be mentioned. It now looks doubtful that the event will happen. Mary reported that there were 2 articles in the Advocate and 1 in the Chronicle. Industrial Expo - Dick Stosez reported the following: RMLD - Dick will meet next week with Ann Marie Brennick. REI - Committed. Corporex - Dick will speak with Assistant Town Manager Russ Dean to obtain a contact name. Post Office - Committed. Library - Committed. RCTV - Will not participate. Media One - No report. Video - Alan reported that the taping is complete, but the script is still not completed. It was suggested that it be used in the "00" venue. Names suggested for possible narrators were Kevin Vendt, Fred Foy, Mark Sawyer, Gary LaPierre, and Diane Lind. Corporation - Linda Russo was given direction for allocating funds by the board: T-shirts, map wallpaper, and ice sculptures. Budget - None. Other - None. 4. Fund Raising Activities T-shirts - Reading Trophy has put a display of the Millennium shirts in the front window. Shirts are now being sold there. It was voted 4-0-1 to reimburse Alan $150 for the map wallpaper purchase. On a motion by Steve it was voted to purchase two ice sculptures from Brookline Ice at $285 a piece, for a total of $570. 5. Open Discussion None. The meeting was adjourned at 9:38 PM. to October, 1999. Ace will inform the committee when a date has been set.
