Millennium Steering Committee
November 1, 1999 Meeting # 22
The meeting was convened at 7:03 PM in the Berger Room at Town Hall.
In attendance: Anna Carroll Foulds, Alan Foulds, Mary Hatfield, Mary Williams, Dick Stosez, and
Steve Crook.
Non-committee members: Karin Samatis
Business
1. Minutes
The minutes of October 14th, 1999 were approved.
2. Correspondence
Anna (Ace) reported that the Reading Art Association chose not to participate as an organization,
but encouraged its members to participate on their own.
Mary Williams and Ace both answered an inquiry from Akron, NY.
Reading Co-operative Bank announced that it will cover the entire costs for the tent.
Mary Williams answered a request from a free-lance writer. She provided information that will
appear in an article for Your Baby Today website.
Mary Williams and Ace both provided information to a reporter for Boston Magazine. The article
is to appear in the December issue.
3. Tent
Karen Sawyer was not present to provide an update.
4. Issues List
On a motion by Dick Stosez, the committee approved authorizing Karin Samatis to sign up the
Lafayette Band for up to $4,500.
Karin reported that Tom Coffin assured her that Fred Foy has been included in the planning for
the Colonial Chorus production.
It was decided that we will no longer search for a DJ for the 70's venue.
The committee voted to authorize up to $1000 as a donation to Creative Arts, for four hours of
crafts and entertainment for children.
Ace informed the committee that the Continentals will not be available.
Alan informed the committee that Charlie Peacock is interested in providing up to six cannons for
midnight at $75 each. The committee voted to authorize $75 for each one provided, up to six.
Mary Williams will speak to Tom O'Connor about the use of Reading Trophy as a venue.
Ace reported that Fran Sansalone has agreed to be editor of the program. Alan will provide her an
outline.
Mary Hatfield and Karen Sawyer will follow up with the bank, to iron out details.
Steve contacted MediaOne for internet access. He is waiting for a response.
5. Arrangement of Venues
See attachment.
6. Budget and Talent Review
The committee voted to increase the ice sculpture amount to $720 to cover costs for both a
customized sculpture of our logo, and a stock piece, depicting a baby with a top hat.
The talent amount was increased to $13,500.
See attached budget.
7. Other
Mary Williams is looking into sponsorships by real estate offices.
Ace reported that no money from the $15,000 Celebration Trust grant has been received. Mary
reported difficulty in getting the Commissioners of Trust to meet and release the funds. Alan said
he would try to reach Bob Cummings.
Dick reported that he has ordered a new shipment of shirts - 60% crew sweatshirts, 40% hooded
sweatshirts. He is planning to sell shirts at Town Meeting on November 8'.
Dick reported that the following entities have signed up for the Industrial Expo: REI, MediaOne,
RMLD, Post Office, Library.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 PM. to November 16th, 1999.
