Jellison, Vice :Chairperson; G. Cail; J. Soule; R. Gibbons; W.Baldwin; B. Doucette; R. Montague; L. Spaulding; G. Rourke; D. Fantasia; and Rbeta McKinley, Administrative Secretary ABSENT: Dick Felone, Sebastian_Tine There was much discussion on what to do about honoring Abe Berson, Arnold Berger and Arnold Rubin at Volunteer Dinner of April 28, 1987, for all their help to Seniors during the year. MINUTES The Minutes were read and accepted. FINANCIAL REPORT The Financial Report was read and accepted. The Treasurer reported there is a balance of $26,331. REPORT OF ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY Report was read and approved VOLUNTEER DINNER Beauceant has not notified us of their decision to put on dinner. Patron's of Older Adults would like exact cost of Volunteer Dinner before coFiimitting a donation. Gladys Cail, Aloyse Jellison and Loretta'Spaulding will help Rheta plan entertainment. BUDGET Rheta reported budget had been approved by Town Manager with exception of "Contractual Services" which had approximately $1,000 deleted from it. Rheta will start interview-Lng for new part-time clerk this week. NE14 BUSINESS There will be a symposium for Board Members and Directors of Councils on Aging at Wilmington Senior Center, 15 School Street, on March 19. MvSTI-C VALLEY Elder Services Report Ruth Montague reported that Mystic Valley Elder Services, Inc. provides nutrition and social services for 8 communities to seniors 60 and over. i. Each community provides an "in-kind and cash match" to pay for these services. Our cash match is $2,239.29. On May 13 there will be a legislative breakfast at Anthony's in Malden at 8 a.m. ,.Price is $7.50 per person. Legislators from each district.. in the M.V.E.S. area are invited and will speak on legislation affecting senior citizens. Older American's Month is in May. Rheta would like to schedule an activity for each week and welcomes any ideas from Board members. The annual picnics held outside senior center, will be toward the end of May so weather will be warmer, possibly on May 28. During month of May there will be a display of articles made in Council on Aging sponsored classes iri Reading Public Library. Another "Spelling Bee" has been scheduled for May 12. Arnold Berger will again donate Station House Gift Certificates to be used for prizes. There was further discussion on Volunteer Dinner. Beauceant has notified Rheta they will be unable to put it. on, but gave name of Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, who might be agreeable. Rheta will also get in touch with Barbara Takach to see if she could put on the roast beef dinner, expenses. of which could be taken from $700 grant from Atlantic Market.- Rheta will check with these people. She also reported that Barbar Mellin will•.be doing the calligraphy on certificates awarded to volunteers. 'f1 r t.iT Gat>11 ® f'f Rheta explained Mystic Valley Elder Services Inc. has $15,000 available for grants to be used for shopping assistance, nutrition and transportation projects. She would like to apply for $3,500 to continue-funding the Shopping Assistance program. Motion made and seconded to asy, MVES, Inc. for grant of $3,500 for Shopping Assistance Program. VOTED BY-LAWS Woody suggested a committee be formed to meet with the Tote Manager to discuss Council on Aging's By-Laws. At. the present time there is no pro- vision for appointing of Associate Members to the Board. Doris Fantasia volunteered to work with Woody Baldwin and Jane Soule of Council on Aging By--law committee. A letter will be written to Town Manager requesting an appointment with Selectmen.
