REPORT OF ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY
Report was read and accepted.
OLD BUSINESS
VOLUNTEER DINNER: After discussion it was decided to drop the idea of
honoring selected guests because there are many who do
provide extra support for the Council on Aging. The menu
was discussed and agreed upon. The cost of the meal will
be $8.00 per person and Rheta reported that $300 had been
received from Court Resources Program and $350 from Patrons
of Older Adults to help defray the cost. Entertainment by
the Reading High School "Singers" will be given. The cost
will be about $50. There will be no charge for use of the
Masonic Temple, but the caterer must pay $25 to use the
kitchen. Rheta reported any charges above above the $650
donation be taken from the Council on Aging budget.
BUDGET:
Rheta reported that the Town Manager presented our budget
to the Finance Commitee and it was approved. However, he did
not present the budget portion for"new programs: (Additional
part time clerk or full time clerk and upgrade.Admini.strative
Secretary, presently classified as clerk.) Following the
presentation of budget for Health-Department, the Town Manager
requested funding for part time clerk to be used as a
"Floater" for Council on Aging, Board of Health, Veteran's
Services and Fuel Assistance. This was passed by the Finance
Committee and will be line items in Health Department Budget.
A motion was made and seconded to send the Town Manager a
letter, signed by the chairman,'asking why we had not re-
ceived a a reply to a letter on March 18, 1987 concerning
our By-Laws.
OLDER AMERICANS MONTHS: There was discussion about a rain date if the
picnic was rained out on May 2-8. Rheta explained that if it
rained on the morning of the picnic it would be difficult to
postpone because nothing could be done about the lunches. We
may be able-to have it upstairs in the Community Center or
use the Masonic Temple. Rheta will contact the Barrows:
School to again have students come and entertain. Some-of
the other suggestions for the Older Americans Month was the
Spelling Bee and a Charter Proclamation, and Rheta will
finalize other dates.
OTHER DATES: Rheta announced that the Board. Training which was
scheduled for April in Wilmington was cancelled for lack
of interest. The Executive Office of Elder Affairs offered
to attend a Board meeting and do a training session. A
motion was made and seconded to have a representative from
EOEA attend our May meeting.
There was discussion about what other towns were paying their
van drivers. Wakefield pays $8/hour and Rheta will check with
other towns to see what their pay scale is.
Dick Felone brought up that we soon would be electing officers
and that he would not be continuing as chairman after
July lst.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn at 7:28 p.m.
