The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Woodrow Ballwin, at 5:30
in the Senior Center.,
MEMBERS PRESENT: Woodrow Baldwin, Dick Felone, Loretta Spaulding,
Aloyse Jellison, Gladys Cail, Barbara Doucett e, Gail Rourke, Rosemary
Gibbons..
MEMBERS ABSENT: Sebastian Tine
STAFF PRESENT: Rheta C,. McKinley
REPRESENTATIVES PATRONS OF OLDER ADULTS: Gertrude Poole & Barbara Ritchie
A motion by Dick Felone, seconded by Gail Rourke to accent minutes of pre-,
vious meeting., The motion passed unanimously.
Financial Report: There was no report because current printout had not
been received from Town Accountant.,
Director's Report: In addition to written report, Rheta Announced a dona-,
tion of $1000., had been given to the COA with the donor -toquesting anonymity.,
NEW BUSINESS: Director reported discretionary grant regijhsting $12,203.,
($4403 to continue funding for Volunteer Coordinator position and $7800
to hire homemaker/home health aides to assist Reading cli;,nts) had been
sent to EOEA.
A Lengthy discussion concerning re-location of Senior Cei,ter ensued.
Woody reported Town Manager had not replied to our letter of 12/21/87 re
COA be involved with re-location
questing process., Rhetq reported that
Health Director, Ruth Cogan had met with all COA staff, i„dividually, for
the purpose of setting up floor plan when we re-locate tcs "old library
building".. COA board MUST request meeting with Town Manager to set up guide-
lines aggreable to COA stating we need to be involved with floor plan so
there will be no problems when move is completed., Three j>oard members and
a couple of staff people whould be included in planning p ocess and Rheta
should be involved in setting up floor plan.
Motion by Aloyse Jellison, seconded by Loretta Spaulding that: Woody
request an appointment with the Town Manager; if there is no response or
he cannot be reached, a letter will be sent to all member, of the Board of
Selectmen, stating there is a lack of communication conch~-ning re-location
of the Senior Center and the COA is frustrated at not bei;g informed., If
this fails, COA will go to the newspapers., Motion passel unanimously.,
Barbara Doucette reported that Needs Assessment Survey wi»l be ready to
mail by February lst., She will request Town Clerks offic,.- make address
labels available and COA board will meet to colate, stapia, etc. Date to
be announced.,

The Board of Selectmen will make appointment to fill vacancy of
COA board at their meeting of January 12, 1988. Mary Segalla,
Ruth Turnquist Vitkovich, Gail Valentinsen and Frank Day have
expressed a desire to be a COA board member.,
Loretta Spaulding composed a letter to be sent to.our U.. S., Rep-,
resentatives requesting they look into the large number of Medicare
denials.: Letter will be circulated among the senior population
for signatures..
Board requested Rheta contact Austin Prep to reserve November 13
or 20 for annual dinner in 1988.: If school is available we will
attempt to again have this very popular event.,
Considering the success of the Holiday Open House it was suggested
that we plan an event to be held in the Spring.; This was tabled
until February meeting.;
