Woody Baldwin, Barbara, Doucette; Gladys Cail, Dick'Felon.e, Aloyse Jellison., Loretta-,Spaulding; Ruth Turn"quist. V,itkovich, Bar-tiara Ritchie,.Gertrude Pool. Members Absents. Rosemary Gibbons, Gail Rourke; Sebastian Tine Staff 'Present: Rheta McKinley, Peter Hechenbleikner The meeting was., called to- order at 5.:35 PM, by Chairman, Woody . B'a ldwi n.. Motion by 'Dick Felone-seconded by Aloyse, Jellison and voted to accept minutes•of previous, meeting. Rheta McKinley advised the Board 'of., her retirement a•s ad- ministrator of, the 'COA effective May 13,1988.. After con- siderable discussion, with the Board expressing saddness.at her leaving, the Board agreed to discuss points of Rheta's retirement with Peter'Hechenbleikner when he arrived at the-meeting. . Progressive Lunch.-.Seniors will meet at the Senior'Center. Bus transportation will be provided from there. Rheta told the Board she thought they might need 3 busses instead of 2. The busses have to be back at 2:00 PM for the school run. The Board decided to have the Seniors meet at the Center at 10:30 instead of 11:00 as previously planned. Relocation of Senior center - Town Manager, Peter Hechenbleikner, arrived at the meeting.. at 6:00 PM to discuss the relocation of the Senior. Center to the Pearl St. School. After answering some questions regarding Rheta McKinley's retire- ment, Peter provided the, Board with Floor Plans of the Pearl St. School., Woody Baldwin again stated the need of. supervision of the tenter by a paid staff 'member. Peter stated that it was something that we need to deal with and we have to determine what the programs are and who.is going to.be there and who needs to cover. Peter outlined to the Board the proposed planned move.to the.Peal .St. School.. The Senior.', Oenter will. be .located in the area, that was formally the kitchen "and a.portion ,of the cafeteria. Total square footage is about. 2200 square feet which 'is roughly the same as the Center on Sanborn St. Entrance and parking will-be on the side where the,temporary'buzlding's are located. Men and women's rooms will be..made.handicapped, accessible. Sheet vinyl will be put on the floor in the dining area. 'Carpet.will be placed in the pool.and card rooms.. A.ramp will be. installed from the parking lot level up to the level.of the platform outside the door. A chairlift.would be.ins:talled`at the inside staircase. The Board, reacted very. favorably about the relocation to Pearl St. and the renovations Peter discussed:., Peter told the Board the move. would possibly,'happen in a month and adequate notifica-• •1 tion would be given. Peter also advised the Board if they had any preference of color for'the new center to let him know. Peter advised the Board that, the new COA. Director, Lois Bond,. will be starting on Monday May 16 1988. A new Outreach Worker will be.hire:d. Aloyse,Jellison stated that the Board would; like to state 'that they enjoyed having Rheta' and we're going to miss her and hoped her retirement opened up, a wonderful new life for her. The Board'thanke.d Peter for coming and explaining,. the move to Pearl'St., School. The Financial report was: read and accepted. Brown Bag Program`-will be handled by:Berson's Pharmacy, without the involvement of.the COA, on May 16th at Tannerville. Annual. Picnic. - A11. plans are. set. and confirmed. Commendation for Barrows School Rheta informed the'.B"oard that Lee -Roberts,Friendly Visitor., thought it would be & good, idea if the COA made a presentation to students at Barrows School at a Selectmen's meeting some night. Rheta will speak to.Ruth.Cogan, Human Services, Director, regarding this.. Summer Evening Program A cookout will beheld at Tannerville.on'July.6th.at 6:00 PM On July 20th at 6:00 PM an outdoor concert will be, at Cedar Glen.. Light refreshments will be, served. Ice cream.will be served at P'eter.Sanbor.n'Place on August 3rd at 6:00 PM. Bingo `will`.be head Au.g. `1:7th. ,at` 6:,00 'PM at. Frank Tanner Drive,. Donut'Holes and a"drink- will be served. Dick Felone.reminded.the,Board that his term runs out on June 30, x.988 and he probably: won'.t be reapplying as he .thinks he.'has been on long enough and thinks it's time for someone new. Woody spoke .for the .Board Wand told Dick he'd rather he didn't leave. Dick said 'he'd think more about it. Gladys .Cail•, Sebastian 'T.ine, and Dick Felo•ne's:.ter.ms..are. up June 30, lti`88. A letter' was presented to. the Board from the .Tannerville 'Club. On May 21st at 2:00 PM,, the Tannerviile Club will be' honoring one of it's members, Mrs. Agnes Dulang, on the occasion.of her 99th birthday.. She has been a resident- of' Reading since 1:916. The Tannerville club-'requested' lub requested a representative from. the COA to be there to-offer a few words of congratulations. Woody Baldwin said he would check to see ifhe would be available. Dick Felone expressed'.what a blessing it has been to work with Rheta and what a blessing she has been to:the community of Read ing and the elderly. He personally thanked Rheta for all the giving and caring she has done. The Board expressed their thanks for what she has done over the years. Meeting adjourned at 7:25 PM.
