STAFF PRESENT: Lois K. Bond GUESTS PRESENT: Millie Dulong The meeting was called to order at 5:40 by Chairperson, Woody Baldwin. Motion was made and voted to accept the minutes of the May and June meetings. Financial Report: Closing budget figures will be presented at the August meeting. The Fiscal Year 1989 line items were discussed. Line item, office supplies, covers those supplies unique to Elder Services. Director's Report: Written report was reviewed. Updated information covered receipt of applications for the Outreach Worker position; need for appointment of new Council on Aging Board members. Election of Officers: Rosemary Gibbons, seconded by Gladys Cail and voted that the current officers continue until September 1, 1988 and a new slate of officers be elected in August. Pearl Street Senior Center: Mcve will be made on Saturday, July 23rd. An elevator is on order. Greater Lynn Mental Health program will explore using a temporary site until the elevator is operable. Open House will be planned for Autumn. Revolving Funds: Discussion about the three revolving funds being proposed to the Board of Selectmen's meeting on August 2, 1988. There was expressed a need to track the level of donations and the equity of fund distribution. Summer Program: Board members will be present for setup, serving and clean-up for the August programs at Peter Sanborn Place and at Tannerville. Henry Murphy will organize the Ice Cream Social. Retirement Seminar: Rosemary Gibbons is searching for coordinators of seminar to be held October 6, 13, 20, 27 and Nov. 3rd. The library fee policy states that programs may be conducted at the library and charge a fee that will recover costs. Tea Dance: Loretta Spaulding moved and Gladys Cail seconded a motion that $100 from the Council on Aging Recreation line in budget be given to the Tea Dance Committee to help defray costs. Motion carried. Trips: Rosemary Gibbons moved and Loretta Spaulding seconded a motion that the Council on Aging news column in the Daily Times Chronicle and Suburban News list all trips organized for Reading senior citizens, giving destination, date, cost, sponsor of trip. Motion carried. Motion to be mailed to Golden Agers, Patrons for Older Adults, Eloise Shannon and Millie Dulong. It will be the responsibility of the organizer to submit information to the Council on Aging office. G. Lounge Furniture: Three couches to be given to the Reading Fire Department for their employee lounge area. Chairs will be moved to Pearl Street until they are replaced. Stackable chairs have been ordered. Elderberries-Classes: Two new classes scheduled for Fall Semester. Mend-It and Fix-It classes added once per month on Fridays. Classes cancelled include Exercise, Knitting and Crocheting. Needs new cover design on Elderberries. Needs Assessment: Assessment distributed during Flu shot clinic. Survey to come before August meeting. Discussed including assessment in newspaper and posting in library. Air Conditioning: Concern about need to advocate for priority treatment for elders when their air conditioners break and they have medical needs.
