Council on Aging
The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held May 19,1980,
in the Recreation :all at Tannerville.
The Secretaryts report was accepted as rendered.
Joe Riemer spoke about the objection by MAQA to the formation of
a Silver Haired Legislature in y<aassachusetts and expressed con-
cern about alleged unnecessary cost of =$20,000 to 30,000 for it.
He also spoke of the concern that many will be removed from Medicaid
with the new increase in Social Security that becomes effective in
July.
Boyce Lee McAteer, Coordinator, Community Services of the Depart-
ment of ;gilder Affairs, was introduced and she explained she hAs
been appointed to work with the Council to help and support it.
Lorna Knapp spoke of training of volunteers for seals on Wheels
program. The program was voted for, i.e., the training programs.
Harold Wyatt informed us that Shelly Dream' has been appointed to
replace Anna Pratt as a coordinator for Meals on Wheels program
and arrangements have been made by Frank Lezaire and and. Harold
Wyatt for her salary for the next six months at $1267.50 by drawing
against the town and being repaid by Middlesex Community Services.
It was voted against establishing a podiatrist clinic at this time.
The publishing of a. monthly newsletter was discussed at some length.
Eleanor Keating presented the information she had gathered from the
Church Weekly and a presentation was made by 11'1'r. Kelleher and
I` r. Gauthier from the Senior Citizen :Publishing, I.n.c. 'these
publications would be at no cost to us. This was tabled until
next meeting.
The Council voted against a request for $50 for a physical
therapist to visit Daniel's Nursing Home.
No action was taken for May as Older Americans' month.
It was voted to contact Sandra Hamilton, Silver Haired Legislature
:Program Developer, for more information of the Silver Ea.ired program..

The summer programs were decided:
July 10 Jay Dumas Picnic
July 24 John MacDonneli Fie and ice cream,
entertainment
August 7 Not determined
August 21 Mary Ottino and
Eleanor Keating Bingo
Andrew ,iulhinch will work with all committees for all dates, for
the summer programs
Voted: to have a picnic bus trip June 10 (June 17 in case of rain) to
680 for busses).

Voted: that. Luigi continue his summer schedule "°as is", particularly
transportation. through sure er Thursday nights to zannerville for enter-
tainments.
~~arold Wyatt discussed with Joyce McAteer the fusibility of canvassing
the Town to find out about the health and circumstances of the elder
citizens. Her reaction was positive. No action was taken.
Joyce McAteer discussed making a check to ascertain how many of the
senior citizens pay taxes; and also establishing to Council as a
non-profit organization so it may handle own affairs. It was mentioned
that we already have the Patrons as a non-profit organization. No
action was taken.
Voted: to have a meeting June 16, 1980.
The meeting adjourned at 10:30 .m.
