Council on Aging
The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on January 14, 1980
in the Recrwation Hall at Tannerville.
The Secretary's report was accepted as rendered.
Mrs. McKinley announced the School Department would like to sponsor a
beginning Bridge Class in the Senior Center. After a brief discussion
the Board voted approval. The class will be held on Thursday afternoon.
Andy Mulhinch wanted to know what method was used to determine who would
receive tickets to the V.F.W. Christmas Party and why there were empty
places at the party. Mrs. McKinley stated she had been told by the V.F.W.
to invite 100 Senior Citizens. The volunteers and their spouses were
given tickets, Seniors attending the Meal Site were given tickets and
those people who attended classes at the Community Center were offered
tickets. (This was done only once at the Meal Site and for only two
of the classes at the Center because the tickets were taken. There
was a communication problem among the V.F.W. people who organized the
party which accounted for the empty places.
Mrs. McKinley requested permission to reserve two busses for March 26th
to attend the Flower Show in Manchester, N.H. This was tabled until the
next meeting in order to check on the cost of the busses.
Joe Riemer gave a brief talk about the importance of voting and the tax
the government plans to put on Social Security income. He also requested
permission to have WBZ-TV film him at the Senior Center. Permission was
granted.
The proposed budget was approved, as presented, with one addition. A
Meals on Wheels driver was added for a salary of $3120.
It was voted to make Luigi responsible for cleaning out the ref:]~;igejator
and organizing the Meal Site kitchen on a weekly basis.
Mr. Rennison has not heard from the high school personnel concerning
the use of young people.for Meals on Wheels and Friendly Visitors.
Mr. Lemaire is working on a referral folder to be given to Senior Citizens
which he passed around for Board Members to check.
Mrs. McKinley received a $300. check from Compugraphic to be used to pur-
chase a Bingo for the Senior Center.
