HomeMy WebLinkAbout1979-11-19 Council on Aging MinutesThe regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on November 19, 1979 at 7130 in the Recreation Hall at Tannerville. In the absence of the Chairman Mr. Everett Lemaire conducted the meeting. The Secretary°s report was accepted as rendered. There was a brief discussion about the Annual Dinner which was held on November 11, 1979 at Austin Prep. All agreed it was a successful day. Plans for an Open House were discussed. It was decided to hold it on Friday December 14 from 7 to9with Andy Mulhinch and Eleanor Keating chairing the event. The Center will also be open from 1 to 4 in the afternoon. Mrs. McKinley will send invitations to Town Meeting members, Area Agencies of Aging, etc. Staffing and clean-up of the Senior Center were discussed. The following conclusions were reached: Council on Aging Recreation Chairman, Andy Mulhinch, will try to be in the Center for a short time each day. A Senior Aide will be present from 10:00 to 2100. Harold Wyatt reported that clean-up of the Center would be taken care of by the Building Maintenance Department as per Mr. Agnew. Smoking and eating will not be allowed in the lounge area of the Center. The Secretary was instructed to write a letter of thanks to Bruce Morang and Teddy Cox of the Reading Chronicle for so generously allowing us Newspaper space to inform the citizens of our many programs. The budget hearing for the Council on Aging is scheduled for Feb- ruary 12 with the Finance Committee. Lorna Knapp feels that the Board, not just the Chairman, should work on the budget. Harold Wyatt discussed the Friendly Visitor program for Reading Council on Aging. Lorna Knapp felt the project should be better organized and suggested Harold talk to other agencies who have Friendly Visitor programs. Mr. Wyatt stated the Board of Health would like to do a visiting program for Senior Citizens. Jay Dumas suggested we publish a brochure listing services avail- able to Reading Senior Citizens. Lorna Knapp will get copies from other towns to be used as guides. Lorna Knapp and Frank Lemaire will work together.on the project. On a motion by Jay Dumas it was voted to have no December meeting and combine December and January meetings on January 14. It was voted that the meeting go into Executive Session. All non-members left the meeting at this time. The attitude, etc. of the Van Driver was discussed. Frank Lemaire.,will write a letter of warning to Luigi Sablone, Van Driver, giving him a 30-day probationary period. Frank Lemaire, John MacDonnell, Harold Wyatt and Guy Rennison will meet with Mr. Sablone to discuss the situation. Res ectfully su itted, /~z& Rheta C. McKinley Secretary members present.
