HomeMy WebLinkAbout1979-08-20 Council on Aging MinutesThe regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on August 20, 1979 at
7:30 in the Recreation Hall at Tannerville.
The Secretary's report was accepted as rendered. There was no Treasurer's
report, however, Mr. Rennison stated the Council had returned $6,646.24
for the fiscal year 1978-1979.
Reading Selectmen Maureen O'Brien and James Sullivan were present at the
meeting. A lively discussion ensued concerning Meals on Wheels volunteers,
friendly visitors, etc. Mr. Sullivan suggested using young people from
the High School as Meals on Wheels drivers.
The Selectmen suggested a meeting with concerned citizens and representa-
tives from the Churches for sometime in September. Hopefully, from this
we will get volunteers to help with Meals on Wheels, visit shut-ins, etc.
Should there not be enough milk for Meals on Wheels participants the milk
will be taken from the Meal Site.
Mrs. McKinley stated we are in need of a craft teacher and bridge teacher
for the coming year. If a new teacher is not available the class will be
cancelled.
The last summer eve-ring. program will be held on August 23rd with Lorna
Knapp as Chairman. Due to a conflict of time the ice cream smorgasbord
will be served following the film.
A bus trip to Fuller Gardens, North Hampton,. N.H. with a picnic lunch at
Odione State Park in Rye, N.H. on September 11, was sanctioned by the Board.
The lunches will be prepared by Malden Action. Mary Ottino, Frank Lemaire,
