Regular meeting
June 19, 1978
The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on Monday,
June 199 1978 at :30 P.M. in the Recreation lull at T nervil.le.
The secretary®s report was accepted with one correction. Summer
program of June 29th should read Gene Richey, Chairman. There
was no treasurer°s report.
John MacDonn.ell will act as chairman of the July 13th summer pro-
gram. Mr. Re iso will look into discount from Friendly's for
ice cream to be used on July 13th, and August 20th.
The possiblity of having an, Adult Education class during the day
as part of the Fall program was discussed. Jay Dumas will check
this and report back to the Board.
The grant of approximately $44000. to renovate the basement of
the Community Center for use by the Seniors was discussed. Sev-
eral suggestions were made as to what equipment should be pur-
chased..
After considerable discussion the Board felt they would not make
a decision ';c use our y for transportation to weekend meal
site until the seniors are polled to see how many would need trans-
portation.
The Board _~~;reed to provide transportation to the Salvation Amy
Camp.
No action concerning the requested 10% budget cut was ta:'Zten at
this time.
Nor. Rennison d Mr. emaire will write up bid proposal for news-
paper for the purchase of new van.
Lorna Knapp, Director of the Green St. Center for Geriatric Care,
spoke to the group. The center will be open five days a week from
9 to with a sliding fee scale. The staff of the center will
offer a wide range of professional services in the five community
areas Reading, North Reading, Wakefield, Melrose,and Stoneham.
