Council on Aging
The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on Monday, March 20th
at 7:30 P.M. in the Recration Hall at Tannerville.
The secretary's report was accepted as rendered. There was no Treasurer's
report. Mr. Lemaire was appointed secretary pro-tem due to the absence of
Mrs. McKinley.
The Council agreed to continue transportation for the Golden Age Club meetings
and Senior Social Club meetings. The Golden Age Club has agreed to allow
new people membership in the club. The Senior Social Club has a closed mem-
bership of fifty members.
It was voted to request an appropiation of $6000.00 from the Town for a new
van.
A Limited Vision Program for Senior Citizens was held on April 8th at the
Community Center. The program is being sponsored by Mystic Valley Elder
Home Care, Inc. and the Combined Visiting Nurse Association. A representa-
tive from both groups will be present along with Dr. George G'hareeb;, a
Reading ophthalmologist.
Mr. Rennison reported a successful St. Patrick's Day party with 65 diners
partaking of corned beef & cabbage. Following the dinner their was entertain-
ment provided by "The Crustal Belles" of Wakefield, in the auditorium with
over 100 in attendance. Refreshments were served courtesy of McDonald's Re-
staurant.
A request for a council sponsored bus ride to Quincy Market was reported--
however, it was felt that due to the heavy traffic and congestion it would
be unsafe for the elderly to encounter.
The spring brunch will be held at Austen Prep on May 13th. It is,,being
sponsored by the Rotary Club and the Patrons for Older Adults.
Mr. Rennison reported that Florence Farelli's employment is being terminated
as of April `nth due to the withdrawal of the CETA funds. Florence has been
working in the Council office as, Outreach Worker and delivering:Meals on
Wheels. Malden Action will be contacted to see whether or not they will
hire Florence to deliver Meals on Wheels.
Mrs. Louanis reported the next council sponsored bus ride will be to Hec-
tor's Country Kitchen in Rye, New Hampshire on May 23rd.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35.
