HomeMy WebLinkAbout1978-02-13 Council on Aging MinutesThe regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on Monday,
February 13 at 7:30 in the Recreation Hall at Tannerville.
The secretary's report was accepted as rendered. There was no
treasurer's report. Mr. MacDonnell will help Mr. Rennison in setting
up the budget for 1978®79.
There was discussion of the meeting held on January 19 pertaining
to back-up drivers for Meals on Wheels. Those in attendance at this
meeting were Mr. Agnew, Frank Lemaire, Jerry Cacciaputi, and Mrs. McKinley.
No conclusions were reached at this time.
Mr. Agnew did say he felt the Council members should attend more
of the out of town meetings (Mystic Valley Elder Home Care, etc.). Com-
pensation to be covered by the Council.
Mr. Rennison feels we should not allow the Council Van to be used
for transportation to Golden Age and Senior Social Club because they
have a closed membership. A vote on this matter will be taken at the
next meeting which will be held on March 20th.
There was considerable discussion concerning purchase of a new van.
Prices have been researched by Mr. Lemaire. We would have to use sealed
bids and request authorization from the Board of Slectmen before purchase
could be made. Further discussion will continue at the next meeting after
all avenues for sources of funds have been explored.
Mrs. McKinley was instructed to investigate the possibility of a
Brunch some time in April or May to be held at Austin Prep with finan-
cial help from the Rotary and the Patrons for Older Adults.
It was voted to raise the §alary of Mary Herrick, Oil Painting
instructor, from $5.50 per hour$b.s0 per hour. Mrs. Herrick has been
teaching for the Council for 11 years and has received only one raise
which was a blanket across the board raise given to all instructors. Mr.
Rennison will review the salaries of all teachers.
It was voted to pay Mrs. McKinley 130 a mile for use of her car

Florence Farelli, Outreach Worker, gave a report on her duties
working with the Council. Mrs. Farelli helps deliver meals on wheels
and coordinates the program, does shopping, errands, and visits any-
one requesting help.
Again, the subject of volunteers to work with the Council on Aging
was discussed. Past attempts were reviewed; in almost every instance it
was a failure. Therefore, it was decided to discontinue trying to get vol-
unteers to help with the Meals on Wheels, visiting, shopping, etc.
Mrs. McKinley was asked to check the availability of off-duty fire-
men to be used as a back up for Meals on Wheels delivery. They would be
paid $3.00 per hour for two hours a day plus a gas allowance for use of
their car.
