Council on aging The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on Monday, Sep- tember 190 1977 at 700 in the Recreation Hall at ` innerville, It was voted to accept the secretary's report of august 15th, as ren- dered. The treasurer's report was accepted as 24,935,80. The suns of 2?92.34 is to be paid to Malden Action to provide meals from Octo- ber 1, 19 r? 7 to September 30, 19?84 for the elderly of reading. There was considerable discussion concerning the Meals on Wheels pro- gram, Some of the questions which came up are--What is the criteria for Meals on Wheels and what input does Malden Action provide? ?sir, kennison announced that Bob Miles and Pat White of Malden Action had met with he and Florence `arelli regarding the delivery of Meals on Wheels, We must submit tie names of new people to Malden Action and they wilYl make the de`a `,nation on who can receive them after making a personal visit to the hnme. It was decided to wait until we have volunteer drivers before attempting, to deliver more meals than at present, The ?reading Junior Womans Club has indicated they might be willing to undertake the delivery of the meals. It was felt we would need at least seven volunteers in order to implement the PVO V^m, Mr, Rennison thanked Jeanne Dube' and. sRheta McKinley for helping with the Bingo which was the last of the summer programs, The high cost of railing the "Elderberries" was discussed, Mr, Rennison will re-submit our application for non-profit status, The Reverend Emrich had contacted, the Council to see if it would be possible to acquire a van for Handicapped, with a ramp, etc. It was felt this would not be possible at this time, The ouncil felt a new fan for regular use should take precedence over a Van for the handi- cappede It was suggested Luigi get estimates on the life expectancy of the present van, With the warrant closing on September 26th it was decided to wait until next year to approach Town Meeting for a new Van, The Medicaid situation was discussed--many people are having trouble finding a Doctor to accept them as patients if they are on Medicaid. Dr, Guerra reels there is mis-management of the program--a typical state bureaucracy, He did indicate there are Doctors willing to take FEedi- caid patients. Jeanne Dube' made the observation we are carrying; too many people on our welfare rolls. Mr. Lemaire gage a brief resume on real estate tax exemptions for Senior Citizens. Fof lowi this Mr. Lemai re spoke of talking with f!agan Allen of the Respite t,, e Program who would like a letter of support from the Council. Dr. suggested this be tabled until the next meeting. November:. 17th was suggested a the date for the Thanksgiving dinner and it was agreed we would adhere to the 6 or over age limitation. On the motion of Jay Dumas it was voted to adjourn at 9:30.
