HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-06-21 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on Monday, June 21, 1976 at the Recreational Building of the Housing for the Elderly, Heading, Mass, The meeting was called to order by the chairman, Mrs, Virginia Hodson, at 7-30 P,M, In addition to the chairman, Mrs, Hodson, those in attendance were Mrs, Jeanne Dube', Mrs. Verna Lantz, Mr, Charles Stratton, Mr, James Dumas, and Dr. Guerra. On notion duly made and seconded it was unanimouslys VOTED; To accept the secretary's report of the previous meeting, copies of which had been mailed to all Council members, On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously: VOTEDs To accept the Treasurer's Report stating the balance as follows: Balance June 1 $1,542.87 Expenditures to June 21 l070.77 Balance Projected Expenses 741.27 A Council Bus Trip will go June 22, to t'oken's in Portsmouth, New Ha.mipshire for dinner and to Barrington, New Hampshire to the Country Store, This trip can not be covered by our present balance; therefore, the chairn;On will contact the Finance Committee for additional funds. There was much dis- cussion over our budget needs and the possibility of asking the Patrons for funds to meet these needs, The Summer Programs have,all been confirmed, Entertainment for the Ju1Y 29 program is still in the balance, but we are hopeful some members of "el'i Ringers group can entertain that evening, Mrs, Somers has written to Inc, in Wilmette Illinois for information relative to the film "Old ;Fashioned Woman" which we hope to have for entertainment on August 12, The use of the Co=cil bus for those in need of transportation to the Salvation Army Camp was sanctioned, and, a $2.50 round-trip price was suggested, The Unitarian bus trip to Saco, !Maine was cancelled since not enough candidates signed for the trip-, therefore, the Council bus was not in use, Mrs, Hodson, the Chairman, and Mr, Agnew, the Executive Secretary of the town, met with representatives of the Mystic Valley Elder Homecare, Inc,, who explained a matching fund system for providing congregate meals to our Senior Citizens in Reading, It was concluded that a federal grant could be obtained whereby less of the funds would be used for administration and more for the sole purpose of providing meals, Research into this grant will be pursued by fir, Agnew and the chairman, There being no further business the chairman adjourned the meeting at 9:10.
