HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-02-23 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING Regular Meeting ® February- 23, 1976 The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on Monday, February 23, 1976 at the recreational Building of the Housing for the Elderly, Reading, Mass, The meeting was called to order by the Chairperson, Mrs. Virginia Gent Hodson, at 7:30 P.M. Those in attendance, in addition to the Chair- person, Mrs. Hodson, were Mrs, Jeanne Rube', Mr. Janes .Dumas, Mrs. Verna Lantz, Mrs. Bette Louanis, and Mrs. Edith Sias, The secretary, Mrs, Thelma Somers, was also present. On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimouslys VOTEDs To accept the secretary's report of the previous meeting, copies of which had been mailed to all Council members. In the absence of the treasurer, Mr. Stratton, the chairperson, Mrs. Hodson, gave the treasurer's report, and on motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously: VOTED: To accept the treasurer's report stating the balance as follows: Budget $20,172.00 Expenses to Jan. 30 11,684.93 Balance ~\87d 0707 The chairperson presented the need for increasing the health budget, and on motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously: VOTED: To include in our budget an additional $1,000 to take care of human service needs.' The budget hearing for the Council on Aging is scheduled for March 23 with the Finance Committee. The chairperson, Mrs, Hodson, and Mr. James Dumas will represent the Council at this hewing, Mrs, Hodson is willing to use the Van on weekends for the special:. needs of the senior citizens, and the board consented unanimously to having the Van parked in her yard on weekends for such use. Mrs. Hodson reminded the Board that the `Jan was in need of two new tires, and on motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously: VOTED: To purchase two new tires for the Van. The Summer Program was discussed and the following tentative dates were scheduled--July 1, 15, 29 and Aug, 12 and 26. The. Reading Council on Aging will host the Eastern Middlesex Geriatrics Sub-Committee scheduled to meet in Reading April 12. It is hoped a film con- cerning "Elderly Day Care" can be shown, Mrs. Hodson asked the Board to sanction an expenditure of 20: for the film, and on motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously: VOTED: To permit an expenditure of up to $20 for the film. Mr. Dumas spoke of a baking contest to be held on March 10 at the Pearl St. School for which he -.is to obtain two Senior Citizens to serve as judges. Mrs, Somers will solicit two Senior Citizens to serve in this capacity. There being no further business to come before the meeting the chair- person adjourned the meeting at 9:00 P,M.
