Regular Meeting - Jan. 19, 1976
The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on Monday,
January 19, 1976 at the Recreational Building of the Housing for the
Elderly, Reading, Mass.
The meeting was called to order by the chairman, Mrs. Virginia
Hodson at 7:30 P,M. In addition to the chairman, Mrs. Hodson, those
in attendance were qtrs. Jeanne Dube % Mr, James Dumas, Mrs, Verna Lantz,
Mfrs, Betty Louanis, Mr. Charles Stratton aad Mr, Robert Sullivan, The
secretary, Mrs. Thelma Somers, was also present,
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously$
Y ' Di To accept the secretary's report of the previous
meeting, copies of which had been mailed to all
Council members.
Mr. Stratton gave the treasurer's report, and on motion duly made
and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To accept the treasurer's report stating the balance
as follows:
Expenses to 12/31 $lo,o26.73
Balance. 109145.27
Mrs, Hodson asked for a representative of the Council to the Board
of the Patrons for Older Adults, and on motion duly made and seconded
it was unanimouslyt
VOTEDs To accept Mr. Stratton as a willing representative
on the Board of the Patrons for Older Adults.
Mrs. Lantz reported that the letters to the merchants asking for the
favor of a. discount to the Reading Senior Citizens had been sent, The fol-
low-up solicitation has been impeded by the Christmas rush and the cold and
snow conditions in January,
Mrs. Comers will set up distribution days for the Indentification Cards.
Mr. Dumas reported that the Reading Senior Citizens would be admitted
free of charge to any high school sponsored event.
Mrs. Sias' visitation group made 58 calls before Christmas to the sick
and shut-ins. The Keenagers at the Methodist Church will make valentines
and deliver them personally to the elderly. There will be a Spring visita-
tion and Mrs. Sias would like volunteers to help with-the making of the gifts
to be taken to the shut-ins and elderly at that time.
The 1976®77 Budget was deliberated, and on motion duly made and
seconded it was unanimously:
VOTEDs To increase our present budget approximately 131 to
take care of increasers costs.
Mrs. Dube' suggested that we send flowers to Mrs. Sablone, and on
motion duly made and seconded it was unanimouslys
VOTEJi.s To send flowers to Dirs. Sablone, the cost of which
will be taken out of overhead.
There being no further business to come before the meeting motion
was made and seconded to adjourn.
The chairman adjourned the meeting at 9x45 P,M.
