Regular Meeting - November 17, 1975
The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on .Monday,
November 17, 1975 at the Recreational Building of the ijousing for the
Elderly, Reading, Mass.
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Mrs, Virginia
Hodson, at 7:30 P,M, In addition to the Chairman, Mrs, Hodson, those
in attendance were Mrs. Jeanne Dube', Mr. James Dumas, :Orr. Vincent
Guerra, Mrs, Verna Lantz, Mrs, Betty Louanis, and Mr. Charles Stratton.
Mr. Richard Evans of the Finance Committee was in attendance; also Dirs.
Thelma Somers, the secretary.
On motionduly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To accept the secretary's report of the previous
meeting, copies of which had been mailed to all
Council members.
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To accept the treasurer's report statings

On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To rescind the previous vote-of the Oct. 20
meeting to advertise for a driver of the van
and approve the use of the firemen for vaca-
tions and sick leave of the regular driver.
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: That the Chairman contact the Personnel Board
to determine the rate we should be paying a
temporary driver.
Mrs, Tridean Cox, whom we voted last meeting to handle publicity for
the Council was-present to take a picture of the members of the Council
Board..
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To grant a budget of $25 to Mrs. Cox to help defray
the cost of pictures,
The Chairman reported approximately 190 flu shots were given at our
recent Flu Clinic, Vaccine for 250 shots was ordered, and, if possible,
the remaining vaccine will be returned.
The publicity of the Nov. 13 Nurse Visitation drew 17 people, which
was a considerable increase.
Mrs. Louanis reported on arrangements for the Annual Dinner, She
appealed for someone to help with set-up of the tables and Jay Dumas
volunteered to be in charge and to contact a Boy Scout Troop for help.

On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTEDs To approve the hiring of the "Forrmalaires" of irakefield
for the entertainment, following the Annual Dinner, at
a figure between $40 and $45.,
It was suggested that identification cards should not be issued until
a contact letter to the merchants was mailed. Mrs. Lantz read the rough
draft of the letter prepared by Mr. Emrich and Mrs. Lantz, and on motion
duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To accept the letter with modification of designated
percentage discounts, and that the special consideration
to be given the Senior Citizen should be determined by
the merchant.
It was suggested that Mrs. Somers set up a convenient plan for dis-
tributing the identification cards,
Mr. Sturm, Mrs. Maureen O'Brien and Mr, George V. Hines, members of
the Planning Board, were present to review for us their recent Transporta-
tion Proposal,
After discussion, and on motion duly made and seconded it was
unanimously:
Vim: That we could not approve of the Proposal, for the follow-
ing reasons:
1. Not sufficient proof of the need.
2. Full potential of our own Van has not been reached.
3. Council does not feel that the Elderly should be.
tied to the subscription shuttle.
4. Question as to the financial aspects. Where do we
get future funds after trial?
Mrs, Sias sent word that a visitation to the lonely and sick is
scheduled for Dec. 3.
The Chairman announced that the Kiwanis will resume their Game Night
for Reading Senior Citizens Friday, Dec. 5.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, the Chairman
adjourned the meeting at 10sOO P.M.
