Regular Meeting - July 21 1975
The regular meeting of she Council on aging was held on Monday, July 21,
1975 at the Recreational Building of the Housing for the El.derlxyo Reading,
Mass,
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Mrs, Virginia G. Hodson
at ?130 P.M. In addition to the Chairman, r s. Hodson, those in attendance
were Mrs, Jeanne Dube", Mr. James pumas, 12i, Verna Lantz, firs, petty Louanis
and. Mr, Charles Stratton, The secretary, ^s. Thelma A Somers, was also
present.
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To accept the secretary's report of the previous
meeting, copies of which had been mail.ed to all.
Council members.

a letter, using ur mailing list $ to the senior citizens of Reading for help
in locating articles for display fo ° the Proposed conversion of the depot
into a museum.

The third in o sees of Sumer :evening Programs is scheduled July 24,
and arrangements were reviewed, Watermelon, punch and cookies will be served.
Mrs, Hodson and Mr, pumas will sure as co-chairmen Mrs. Somers will arrange
for the paper cups o napkins "Plates, punch and cookies to be at the Housing for
the Elderly that evei"!:F.ng.
Thursday, August l4v a Cookout and the Movie "Jane Eyre" is scheduled.
Mr. Stratton and The !reverend mrich will serve as co-chairmen. Mrs, Lantz,
Mrs, Louan z.s o and Mrs, Hodson will help, and anyone else on the Council" Board
who is available will be most welcome to assist. Mrs, godson. will provide the
potato chips and purchase ketchup, hamburg; also hot dog rolls and hamburg
rolls, A beverage should be served and these is adequate punch syrup availdable.
Mrs, Quigley of Tanne vi,l~le has volunteered to v7 ici_t ten salads from the
ladies there, Our cookie supply is still adequa for dessert.
On August 28 a. Barbershop group will entertain after the ice creaser
smorgasbord, Mrs. Somers will write aletter of confirmation of the com-

Dube' and Dr. Guerra w llw serve as co-chairmen for the evening,
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To give a $25 donation to the Barbershop group.
It was estimated that three gallons 01, ice create will be. sufficlenty
and Mrs, godson ? ma the purchase, Mrs, Dube' will purchase the toppings.
It was thought advisable to consider the individual 60 years of age and
over on retirement disability to become eligible for our instruction program.
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously;
That any Individual. 60 years of age and over can
retirement disability could be eligible for our
instruction p ogXam. Wority, however, will be
given to those 65.
The attendance at the Drop-:fin.-Center has been falling off, and on notion
duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To discontinue the .Drop-In-Center until, the
fall session resumes,
Mrs, ouanis announced the next Council bus trip will be Thursday,
July 24, to the Old Forge at indge, New EAmpshlre and the Cathedral of the
Pines. Only one bus will, be engaged.
Q'sso Junes of Jones Paint Store was ontacted to instruct a Craft Class,
Because of other com i ttments she has had to decline, and it was suggested
that Mrs. Somers contact Mrs. Mary Babcock of &rimer Avenue who has done much
gratis craft work for us.
The Board also suggested that the knitting cuss continue to meet at the
Community Center as previously,
There being no further business motion was made and seconded that we
adjourn,
The Chairman adjourned the meeting at 900 P.M.
