HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-05-19 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING Regular Meeting - May 19, 1975 The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on Monday, May 19, 1975 at the Recreational Building of the Housing for the Elderly, Reading, Mass. The meeting was called to order by the Chai man, Mrs. Virginia G. Hodson at 700 .M, In addition to the Chairman, Mrs. Hodson, those in attendance were Mrs, Verna Lantz, Br. Vincent Guerra, ; -r, James J. Dumas, Mrs. Jeanie Dube', -,"he secretary, Mrs, Thel. a ::news ~ was also present, oti.on duly made and seconded it was unanimously: V Bs To accept the secretary's report of the previous meeting, copies of -which had been mailed to all Council .members On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimouslyt Jc To accept the Treasurer°s report, which was presented by the Chairman in the absence of the Treasurer, r® Charles Stratton, stating Balance as of APrii 30 $3,368-59 State Health Grant 8.54 Van Receipts to date 291.20 Estimated Balance-June 1 - w - lx658 36 . s°timated Expenses for June 957.27 Estimated Balance June 30 601.659 Mrs, Hodson announced, the budget figure of 19,190 had been approved at Town Meeting. The board reviewed the Summer Program and tried to finalize the enter- tainment for the five evenings, Twc~ -embers of tk are asked to volunteer as chairmen for a Summer P-.-j-,-,--.cam eve- ing. Aug. 28 - Ice Cream Smorgasbord ® followed by entertainment (hrs. Dube' and Dr. Guerra, Chairmen) ':fir. Dumas suggested the possibility of obtaining free punch from MacDonald. ° s. On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously: NOTED; To approve the Summer:'Bus Schedule as outlined-at the last meetings On motion duly made and seconded it was VOTED: To ratify the telephone vote taken for the approval by the Council of the Congregational Church Housing complex to be erected in the Temple St, area, On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously: VOTED: To have all future Council Board Meetings scheduled on the third Monday of each month. The question of the Rotary Gift was discussed, Mr. Berger reported to Mrs. Somers that his board would possibly seek other service organ- izations for a donation to a fund for the projector, and he will report back to us again. Mrs. Somers explained that their used projector is acceptable to us or a donation to a projector fund as perfectly agree- able. A notice was read from the Massachusetts Association of Older Americans, Inc,, urging Senior Citizens groups to be present at the upcoming Seventh Annual ;fleeting of the organization on Friday. June 13 From 12:30 to 3:30 P.M. at John B. Hynes Memorial Auditorium, On motion, duly :made and seconded it was unanimously: VOTED: To have the Council Bus available for the transpor- tation of eleven Senior Citizens to this meeting; also to suggest to the Senior Citizens Groups that they write letters to their legislators Aga,inst:aiy proposal to deny the cost--of-living increase to SSI recipients or slashes in the Medicaid Welfare Program, The Chairman announced that the Reading Council on Aging will be hosting The Council on Aging Sub-Committee of the Geriatric Committee of the Eastern Middlesex Community Mental, Health and Mental Retardation Area Board on Monday, June 9, 1975 at 12 Noon to 1:30 P,M. at the Recreational Building of the Housing for the Elderly, 22 Frank D.
