Regular Meeting - November 25, 1974
The regular meeting of the Council on aging was held on Monday,
November 25, 1974 at the Recreational Building of the Housing for the Elderly,
Reading, Mass.
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Mrs, Nathal.i,e Co Beaton
at 7:30 P.M. In addition to the Chairman, Mrs, Beaton, those in attendance
were Mrs, Verna Lantz, Mr, Charles Stratton, IIrs. Edith Sias, Dr, Vincent Guerra;
also Mr, James J. Dumas, a new member of the board representing the School Departm-
ment, who was welcomed by the Chairman. The secretary, Tars. Thelma Somersywas
also present.
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTEDs To accept the secretary's report of the previous meeting,
copies of which had been mailed to all Council members„
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To accept the treasurer°s report stating:
Expenditures to 10/31 $5:555.46
Estimated expenditures to 11/30 79566,80
Van Receipts 100,00
State Grant expenditures to 11/30 213.33
Leaving a balance as of 10131 12071.30
and an estimated balance as of 11/30 10059.96
Mrs, Beaton also reported that the patrons for Older
adults, Inc,, had made a contribution of 2,000 to
the town in support of elderly programs,
Mrs, Beaton reported the purchase of the new Eastern Middlesex Human
Services Resource Directory.
The report of the Annual Banner was given by the Chairman stating that
225 people were served by Shaw Catering Company, Inc., at a cost of $810,00,
The cost of the entertainment was $50,
The Chairman reported 208 shots given at the Free Flu Clinic,
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED: To rescind the vote of the October 21st meeting to have
the annual Dinner at the Congregational Church: and voted
to approve and ratify the acceptance of St, thanasius
Church Hall as the site for the annual Dinner,

VOTED; To rescind the vote to have the Nurse Visitations every

Nurse Visitations only on the first Thursday of the month at the Housing for
the Elderly, and on the second Thursday of the month at the Council Office in
the Community Center,
1'x so Beaton read a letter from Vary Larkin, who formerly dial volunteer
work with the Council in Reading, but who is now connected with Neil B, Gaynes
& Associates Inc,, Consultants in Care of The aging, 6043 North Cicero Avenue,
Chicago, Illinois 60646, as Coordinator-Education and Training.
Mrs, Beaton reported a gift from the Patrons of a small refrigerator and
screens for the Council office use, for which we are most appreciative,
The budget for 7/l/75 - 6/30/76 was under discussion. The possibility of
hiring an instructor for a Craft Class was proposed.; also suggested that we
estimate our paper requirements ahead and purchase now because of the increased
costs, Recommendations were made to increase the budget as follows:

It was also suggested that we retain $810 for the Health Program.
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOA" : To request a budget of $18,750 for 7/175 to 6/30/76

Bre Guerra mentioned, for the expansion of our health program, the possi-
bility of having informative talks on mental health with emphasis on attitudes
toward growing older,
a discussion of a replacement for the Chairman, Mrs, Beaton, who is re-
signing.ensued, list of possible candidates was reviewed, but no definite
action was taken, The Chairman suggested the appointment of a Nominating
Committee, but again no positive action was taken,
On motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously:
VOTED- To suspend, the regular scheduled meeting for December 23,
and to post notice of same at Town Hall,
There being no further business the Chairman adjourned .the meeting at
10$00 P.M.
