Regular Meeting, November 28, 1973
The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was weld on November
28, 19°73 at 22 `rank D. Fanner Drive, ReadingoMassachusetts.
The Chairman, Mrs. Nathalie C. Beaton called the meeting to order
with the following members forming a quorum, Mrs. Verna Lantz, Mrs.
Elizabeth. Louanis, Mrs. Edith Sias, Dr. Vincent Guerra, and Mr. Donald
Farnham, Mrs. Marian Tymi.nski was also present.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously:
VOTED: To accept the Secretary°s report of the previous meeting
that had been mailed to all members,
Due to the absence of Mr. Charles Stratton there was no Treasurer's
-report.
Mrs. Beaton gave each member of the Council a copy of a proposed
budget for the 19?4 m 1975 year (July 1 - June 30) for discussion. A
proposed budget must be presented to the Finance Committee before Jan.1,;
Mrs. Beaton called attention to the fact that some of the instructors
had asked for an increase in pay and after discussion and on motion
duly made and seconded,by )r; Vincent Guerra, it was unanimously
VOTED: To increase all class instructors ()except for the Exercise
Class instructor) salaries 10 per cent beginning July 1, 1974.
Mrs. Keaton said':she would ;o over the budget again including the
salary changes but making adjustments in other areas so that the total
budget wo l-& rot be creased.aboue..that for the corresponding previous
period.,and that copies of this revised tentative budget would be mailed
to all Council members before the December meeting so that they could
study it carefully and discuss any furter changes at that meeting.
Mrs. Beaton asked that the date of the Board Meeting be changed
because of the holidays and because she will be leaving for Florida
around December 15th and would like to submit the budget before then.
On motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously:
VCTED: To change the date of the next Council on Aging Board
4e-ting to December 12, 1973.
On motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously:
VOTED: :Mrs. C. Verna Lantz will be Chairman, Pro Tem during
Mrs. Beaton's absence the later part of December and the month of
January.
Mrs, Beaton suggested the possibility of buying a computerized list
of persons over 65 From a firm in North Reading for $10.00 but Mr.
arnham thought that the TownJmight'have sudh-.°a li t.-we could obtai;n_
Mrs, Beaton will look into this before going further. If we had such
a list we could possibly make a more complete survey of the elderly and
see gust who needs our services. The iwanis might help with this pro-
ject by donating funds or time, Mrs, Beaton is going to speak at their
December meeting and will make the suggestion,
Mrs. Beaton asked the members to recommend new programs for the
next years program. She suggested the possibility of a Variety Olaf t
Mass again with a professional teacher, These classes will probably
not affect the budget, In January Mrs, Irene Ehl will conduct the four
flay Reading classes,
After further discussion regarding finahei4l :matters and there
being no further business to come before the meeting, upon motion duly
made and seconded, it was unanimously:
VOTED: To adjourn the meeting at 10:45 PM.
