Regular Meeting, October 24, 1973
The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held on Wednesday,
October 24, 1973 at 22 Frank Tanner Drive, Reading, Mass.
The Chairman, Mrs. Nathalie G. Beaton called the meeting to order at
7:45 with the following members present; Mrs. Verna Lantz, Mr. Donald Farnham
Mrs. Elizabeth Louanis, Dr. Vincent Guerra, Mrs. Edith Sias, Mrs. Jeanne Dube',
and Mr. Charles Stratton. Mrs. Marian Tyminski was also present.
Mrs. Beaton welcomed Dr. Vincent Guerra to the Council. Dr. Guerra had
been appointed by the Selectmen October 9, 1973.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously:
VOTED: To accept the Secretary's report of the September meeting that
had been previously mailed to all Council members.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously:
VOTED: To accept the Treasurer's report that to date $16, 382. 19 remains
in the account.
Mrs. Beaton reported to the Council that the Tannerville Fair's profit year
was $2783. 91 to date.
Mr. Farnham announced that this year the annual dinner menu will be fruit
cup, chicken pie, mashed potato, candied carrots, relishes, rolls, ice cream, cup
cakes and cookies at a cost of $3. 50 per person. The entertainment will be $20. 00.
Dinner will be served at 12:30 PM to 175 guests. The caterer will be Shaw of Lynn.
Mrs. Louanis announced the next bus trip will be Nov. 7th to Yokens in
Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Mrs. Beaton presented a map that she and Mr. Sweetser marked as to the
possibility of having a regular route around town for the Council Van. Discussion
followed but it was decided to wait for a while before going ahead with it. It was
suggested that the Friday shopping trip for 25~ could be extended to include Redstone
and North Reading.
The Kiwanis Club of Reading has asked Mrs. Beaton for a project that they
could help the Council on Aging or the Patrons for Older Adults Inc. with. Mrs. Beaton
said if anyone had any suggestions she would be glad to pass them along in the near
future.
T I M E - DC has settled the claim for the damaged kiln which has been
pending for a number of months and the Council has given to the Town the check
for final settlement in the amount of $213. 00 in reimbursement of that amount
previously allotted to the Council for a replacement kiln.
The Discussion Group - second in the series of Short Classes - will begin
November 2. Mrs. Beaton will conduct the first with Mr. Stratton and Mrs. Dube'
conducting the next two.
There being no further business and on motion duly made and seconded, it
was unanimously voted to adjourn the meeting at 10:00 PM.
