HomeMy WebLinkAbout1973-03-28 Council on Aging MinutesCouncil can Aging ® Regular Meeting The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held in Room 1 of the Community Center, 52 Sanborn Street on March 28, 1973 at 7:30 P.M. In addition to the Chairman those present wete: Mrs. Verna Lantz, ;vir, Donaid Farnham, Mrs, Edith Sias, Mrs. Jeanne Dube', of the Council. Miss Larkin and Mrs. Tyminski were also Dresent. On motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously.. Voted: To accept the Secretary's report of the L,' bruary meeting which had been previously mailed to the Council members. The Treasurer's report was omitted due to the absence of Mr. Stratton. Congratulations were extended to Mrs. Heaton and Mr. Stratton for the fine job they did at Town Meeting obtaining the 18 months operating budget of$$22, 777.50 as presented, and also a capital expenditure of $4,000.00 for the Mini-bus. All the money= will came from Revenue Sharing. Tannerville Fair has contributed $2,000.00 to the Town in as much as the budget was increased by more than that amount over the $9,000.00 recommended by the Finance ommittee, On motion of Mrs. Sias and duly seconded, it was unanimously: VOTED.- That the Executive Director be paid the difference of 580.00 to bring her salary up to the $780.00 for the quarter of the year as voted by Town Meeting for the 18 month budget. A discussion ensued regarding the possible formation of a Non-profit organization to be set up for the purpose of obtaining contributions from interested townspeople and local organizations, Those present expressed interest in such an organization, Mrs Beaton reported the Health Program is in operation with Mrs. Marion, R.V,N,A. conducting private consultations from 2-.00 to 4:00 P.M. on Tuesdays. The response is slow but those that have attended are very pleased. She would like the Council members to encourage the elderly to attend. Mr, John Tormey of the ward: of public Works attende the meeting to explain the process of purchasing a Mini-bus through the 'gown, We will advertise for bids for two consecutive weeks in the Reading Chronicle and submit a set of specifications to the local automobile dealers. He explained the items the Town would require on a Van and said he would draw up the specifications for us. We will advertise for a 12 passenger Mini-bus, The bids will be opened April 139 1973 at 12:00 Noon in the Council office. The Council will once again sponser five Summer Programs for the Elderly. The following suggestions were made fort June: The Quannapowi.tt Players July; The Check-Mates with the Tlixons _August: The Colonial Chorus Bus trips and Music Theater Parties will also be planned.
