HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-10-25 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL OIL AGING The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held at the Housing for the ElderlT, Wednesday, October 25, 1972• The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by the Chairman, Mrs Beaton. Those: present in addition to Mrs. Beaton were Mrs. Lounis, Mrs. Lantz, Mr. Stratton, Fir. Evans, Mr. Emrich and Mr. Farnham. Upon motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously: Voted.: To accept for the records the Secreta.ryls report for Wiieetl_ng held on September 27, 1972, copies of which had been previosly mailed to all members of the Council. Mrs, Lousnis announced the new officers of the Golden Age Club: 'resident -dirs. Frances Doucette Treasurer - " Eleanore Lyman Corr, Sec. ~ Helen Halloran "Rec. See. Mary Earl; .'rs'A Beaton presented a. tentative 1973 Budget for the next 18 months. She had requested a. representative of the Finance Corwimittee attend but no one came. No amount had been allocated into the budget for a Health Program and after considerable discussion it was decided to ask Mrs. Murphy to cone to the next meeting for father discussion of necessary- funds and further explanation of the needs of the program. Mrs. Beaton said she would go over the budget carefully before the next meeting and make suggestive revisions for consideration by the Council' before ,diseussing it with the Finance Committee. Mrs.:Louanis and Mr, Farnham reported that all plans have been made for the Thanksgiving Dinner at The Church of the Good Shepard, November 15, 1972 at 12:30. Shaw will eater the dinner at a`cost of $569.50 'for 170 persons. The cost of the mu5ical entertairj.rl,:nt will be $20.00to Mrs. igne Jewel and Miss Dorothy Parry plus 25.00 custodial charges. Mrs. Louani.s will put an article in the Chronicle tnd take charge of reservations. It is hoped that transportation: cprL be arranged for those that have been unable to attend in the past. Mrs. Beaton announced that the Tannerville Fair was very sucees - ful and profitable and that the proceeds are in the Stoneham Co- Operative Bank. Mrs. Mary Herrick has been eo`-ordi.nator of the Fair and is t,.cting as treasurer for the timebezng tiantill a: m~meeting is held in the near future to set up a more permanent organization for ~ Tannervill,e Fair, to evaluate the 1972 Far and make early plans for the 1973 Fa,ir. A motion was nads by r. Evans seconded that we purchase a Movie Projector and a Ceramic Kiln. A discussion followed as to whether the use would warrant an expenditure of 564.00. An ammendment was proposed by Mr. Emrich that 6300.00 be set seat aside for a film program. The dise.ussion was that ;;;300.00 was too larger in keeping with the, X564.00 for the Projector. A vote was taken on the amendment, it was defeated. A vote was taken on the rain motion, it was defeated. Upon motion duly made and seconded it was; Noted: To purchase another Kiln the same size that we now Have. Regarding transportation for the elderly Mrs. Beaton: reported on the "results of her in uiries to Lowell, Beverly, and. Needham as to how the provided transportation for their elderly. This is a subject that the Council has great interest in.. After a lengthy discussion Mr. Emrich and Mr. Farnham said they would contact potential contributors in town that might provide a. vehicle. ~Jpon. motion duly made and seconded it was unanimously: Noted To hold the next regular meeting of The Council on hging one week early November 15, 1972 because of Thanks- giving.
