The regular meeting of the Council on Aging was held at the Housing for
the Elderly, Wednesday, September 27, 1972.
The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Beaton the chairman, at 7:30 PM.
Members present in addition to the chairman, were Mrs. Louanis, Mrs.
Sias, Mr. Stratton, Mr. Farnham and Mr. Evans. &~U ej_elu "I"- X71 '
Upon motions duly made and seconded, it was unanimously:
Voted: To accept for the records the Secretary's reports for the
meetings held on June 28, 1972 and on August 23, 1972 copies of which
had been previously mailed to all members of the Council.
Voted: To accept for the records the report of Mr. Stratton, the
treasurer, showing: Balance on Hand of Town Allocated Funds - $3948. 96.
Voted: To accept with regret the resignation of Mrs. Dorothy N. Stewart
° as Executive Director and Secretary as of September 15, 1972 in accordance
with her letter of resignation dated September 12 which was read by
Mrs. Beaton.
Mrs. Beaton reported that most of the programs and classes have started.
There are 132 elderly attending these. About 100 of these people are in one or
more additional classes. Though the Ceramics classes have been over-subscribed,
Mrs. Beaton feels the present teacher, Mrs. Jean Smith,can handle the larger
classes.
After a discussion of applicants' qualifications and upon motion duly made and
seconded, it was unanimously:
Voted: To offer the position of Executive Director and Secretary of the
Council on Aging to Mrs. Marian G. Tyminski of 22 Garrett Road at the
salary of $100. 00 a month or $1200 a year.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously:
Voted: To purchase an electric blender, electric mixer and other kitchen
equipment particularly for use in the Homemaker's Class and to purchase a
move projector for general education programs for approximately $500. 00.
Mr. Farnham offered to look into the matter of selecting a projector.

After considerable discussion of the matter, the Chairman said she would
present at the next meeting a tentative 1973 Budget covering 18 months to
June, 1974 as required by the town. It was suggested that a member of the
Finance Committee be invited to hear the presentation and discussion of this
tentative Budget. Mrs. Beaton said she would make such an arrangement.
Mrs. Sias said some visitations were made by her committee during the
summer months and that a full schedule of renewed visitations will be made
during the winter months.
At the conclusion of a discussion of transportation problems of the elderly,
Mrs. Beaton said she would check into the possibilities of acquiring a Mini Bus
by the Council and/or a group of churches plus information regarding insurance,
etc.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously:
Voted: To hold a Thanksgiving Dinner for the elderly of Reading on
Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1972 and Mrs. Louanis and Mr. Farnham were
again appointed Co-Chairmen for the dinner.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to adjourn and
the Chairman adjourned the meeting at 9:45 PM.
