HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-06-10 Council on Aging MinutesCOUNCIL ON AGING bbeting Held on June 10, 1971 (s voted at MAy 26th Heeting) meeting of the Council on Aging was held, on Wednesday evening, June 10, 1971, at 7:30 ,X, at the Iecreation Building of the Housing for the Elderly It was reported that no money had a yet been spent from the funds al- located: to the Council by the Town of 'heading. Mks. Janet Pierce, who was also in at tendanc°e,, reviewed the Community Program for the Elderly, During this time MY. Gardner entered the meeting and took the chain After considerable discussion and upon motion dull- made and seconded, it was unanimously: VG That the secretary should write to the Reading Housing Authority raking t following recommendations: 1. That $50 be paid from Community Program funds to Jane; Pierce to be used for various expenses in connection with the over Program and to be accounted for with receipted bills. 2, That, in accordance with plans worked out by Janet Fierce with Mr. Evans of the Council, the schedule for Special Summer Activities be as follows: June 23 - Cookout and Games July 7 - Square Dance July 21 - Entertainment to be announced (later found out to be the uannapowitt Players) August 4 - Ice Cream Smorgasbord - Colonial Chores Program august 18 - Cookout - Entertainment to be announced. 30 That, contingent upon finding available funds, another Ceramics Class be added in the 011 to take care of the dozen people who have been on the waiting list for that class for some time. It is suggested that funds unused because some classes have been cancelled be applied for this purpose with the remainder to come from local funds. If Mrs. thing feel she cannot tare on another class herself it is suggested, that she be asked to recommend someone who can and would make a good teacher. 4m That one of the Xni.tti.ng Classes be transferred to the Lounge of the Church of the Good Shepherd to relieve the pressure on the Recreation Building of the Housing for the Elderly. This could be a class made up entirely of people who do not live at the Housing for the Elder ly. 1. Geriatric Gomm she if she would accept if appointed. 0 Nye Gardner then really stunned, those present by announcing that he would have to tender his resignation as a member and Chairman of the Council to the Selectmen because he would be leaving Reading on July 15th to become the minister of a church in Stamford., on.inecti cat; and he sug- gested that over the summer the Council give consideration to the matter of recommending someone to take his place both capacitiesy which the members know will not be easy because of the outstanding leadership that MY. Gardner has provided-all have enjoyed working with him so very much.
