MEETING MINUTES
NOVEMBER 24, 1992
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by R. Sanstad.
Those in attendance were: M. Cowell, R. D'Antona, D. Farnham, D. Finney, R. Graham,.J. Lupi,
P. O'Leary, R. Sanstad, D. Swyter, and D. Williams. Also in attendance was invited guest Dr. Dan
Ensminger, author of the School Population Projection.
Dr. Ensminger presented the updated version of the Reading School Population Projection in
significant detail. Although final copies of the report were not available for hand-out, it clearly
reflected, in macro terms, a significant increase in student populations in the near future. It
was agreed that any detailed discussion of the impact on individual schools be deferred until the
next meeting when the specific information will be available to all members.
A clarification has been received from Town Counsel regarding the use of the current architect
for the Parker project. It was his opinion that the Parker project was not covered by the
original RFP and, as such, it should go through a new bidding process. This course of action will
be pursued by the committee. This position was also clearly communicated to David Finney and
acknowledged by him. In addition, Don Farnham was tasked with requesting Dr. Munnelly to
initiate a letter to Design Partnership of Cambridge authorizing them to formally begin working
with us on the Elementary School project.
Discussion then evolved to the needs, both educational and physical plant, of the Parker Middle
School. It was our feeling that we may not fully understand these needs and detailed discussion
regarding them should take place. To this end, Dave Williams was asked to invite Jack Delaney
to our next meeting to participate in such a discussion. Once this has taken place, we will be in
a position to initiate the RFP for the Designer Selection process to begin.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 PM.
