MEETING MINUTES
JULY 20, 1993
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 PM.
Committee members in attendance were: M. Cowell, R. D'Antona, D.
Farnham, R. Graham, R. Grasso, B. Poock and R. Sanstad. Also present
were: Architect D. Finney, Dr. Alexanian and Dr. Delaney.
David Finney presented three new drawings of various options for the
Parker Middle School. Significant innovations were included in these
options including a new gymnasium, relocating the primary entrance to the
building, adding the Science rooms onto the south side and enlarging all
classrooms to 750 square feet each. Considerable discussion took place
with many new suggestions and input coming from those present. None of
the three options were accepted per se, however each had some very
usable features. Mr. Finney will incorporate into the sketches some of
the ideas advanced and come to the next meeting with additional
presentations.
Discussion took place regarding the Ed Specs for Parker with additional
input received from Dr. Alexanian and Dr. Delaney. No final vote was taken
as the group wanted to study the final data further. This will be
completed for our next meeting.
David Finney explained to the group the bid process which will be utilized
for Birch Meadow during the next eight weeks. In brief, the key dates are:
-August 25 Pre-Bid Conference
-September 8 Sub Bids Opening
-September 15 General Bid Opening
-September 20 Contract Award Vote by School Committee
Following our mandate from Town Meeting, all are reminded that any
changes to $ amounts or architectural items must be approved by the
School Building Committee.
David Finney requested that the kitchen at Birch Meadow be shut down two
weeks early in the Spring of 1994 to allow ample time for the contractor
to complete that portion of the renovation. R. D'Antona and R. Sanstad will
work this issue with the appropriate personnel.
It is intended that construction at
Birch
Meadow will
be completed
by
August 24, 1994 and the building
will be
occupied by
September 6,
1994.
R. D'Antona and D. Finney briefed the Committee on the re-bid process (and
the reasons) for asbestos removal at Joshua Eaton. All asbestos removal
activity must be completed by August 27, 1993.
R. Sanstad provided R. D'Antona with copies of all previous SBC meeting
minutes for the files of the Town Clerk and/or Counsel. These were
requested so they may be provided to the legal counsel of abutters to the
Birch Meadow site in the event of litigation of the parking lot location.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:15 PM.
Note: The next meeting will be at Town Hall at 7:30 PM on Sept. 21,1993.
