Committee members in attendance were: D. Farnham, R. Graham, R. Grasso, J. Lupi, R. Sanstad, L. Selzer and D. Williams. Also in attendance were D. Finney and J. Miele from Design Partnership of Cambridge and M. Slezak from a Reading Arts group. Mr. Slezak had requested to be on the agenda of the SBC to discuss their need for space for performing arts groups. Specifically, they needed an acceptable auditorium with adequate backstage area. After reviewing our preliminary plans for Parker, he felt that the backstage area was insufficient. In view of the layout of hallways, stairs, etc., it didn't appear that we would be able to re-configure the area to accommodate their needs. He will further review their requirements and come back to us if he feels that Parker will fill their needs. It was announced that the construction contract for Birch Meadow will be signed on Tuesday, October 12, 1993. The contractor, Granger Corporation, has stated that they will still meet the scheduled completion date even though they are getting started 1-2 weeks later than planned. With the objective of reducing the estimated costs and making the project more affordable, the Parker Ed Specs were reviewed and modified once again. David Finney will now take those revisions and cost them out. Further discussion of this will take place at our next meeting. There is genuine concern by the committee that the funds would not be available or affordable if the project costs exceed some unknown threshold. Don Farnham was asked to convene his sub-committee on projected student population and review the Ensminger Study for the "need" date for the Parker expansion. It also was brought out that Jack Delaney and Al Lahood are reviewing population projections as well and may arrive at a different conclusion than the current one. Don's committee will reconcile their numbers with the Ensminger report and return with appropriate recommendations. It was pointed out that.-the Ensminger Study is the only f I projection that has been reviewed and formally accepted by the School Committee. As a result, it is the only one the SBC will follow until such time as the School Committee adopts different data. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 PM. NOTE: The next meeting of the School Building Committee will be at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, October 27, 1993 at Town Hall.
